Lulu Campbell Spokane
Service for Lulu Campbell will be at 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Born in Kalispell, Mont., Mrs. Campbell died Monday. She was 95.
She had been a Spokane resident for more than 60 years, and was a homemaker.
Her husband, Walford, preceded her in death.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Greene of Spokane; two sons, Raymond Campbell of Spokane and Gerald Campbell of Seattle; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Max Orr Oldtown, Idaho
Military graveside service for Max Orr, 82, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the Newport (Wash.) Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon to 1:15 p.m. at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport.
Born in Lynch, Neb., Mr. Orr died Monday.
He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the 25th Infantry Division, active in the Battle of Guadalcanal.
Mr. Orr moved to Bonner County, Idaho, in 1948 and settled in Blanchard.
He married Vida Brown in 1949 and in the early 1950s they moved to Oldtown. She died in 1955.
Mr. Orr married Lois Allbee in 1957.
He worked for Diamond International for more than 28 years, retiring in 1979 as a planer set-up technician.
Mr. Orr was a member of the local woodworkers union.
His wife died in 1993.
Survivors include three daughters, April Dunbar of Spokane, Maxine Corning of Wilbur, Wash., and Carolyn Knudsen of Eagle River, Alaska; two sons, Jerry Allbee of Oldtown and Stan Orr of Seattle; a brother, Lyle Orr of Oldtown; two sisters, Ora-Mae McGuire and Oreatha Hotaling, both of Bothell, Wash.; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Robert Moon Spokane
Rosary for Robert Moon will be at 7 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday in the mausoleum at Holy Cross Cemetery.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Moon, 78, died Monday.
He worked as a janitor.
Survivors include his wife, Marie; a son, Michael Moon, and two daughters, Mary and Margaret Moon, all of Spokane.
Helen Smith Spokane
Visitation for Helen L. Smith, 78, will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. A memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Fourth Memorial Church.
A 50-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Smith, died Monday.
She was born in Galesburg, Ill.
Mrs. Smith had worked as a sales clerk for The Crescent department store. She was a member of Fourth Memorial Church.
Her husband, Ernest, preceded her in death.
She is survived by three sons, Floyd, Larry and Steven Smith, and a daughter, Lorraine Crouch, all of Spokane; a sister, Frances Carpenter of Kirkland, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Thelma Reitmeier Cheney
Graveside service for Thelma L. Reitmeier, a longtime Cheney resident, will be at 1 p.m. today at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Cheney Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Reitmeier, who was born in Goldendale, Wash., died Sunday. She was 89.
She worked as a switchboard operator for the Cheney phone company until retiring in 1956.
Mrs. Reitmeier was a member of Cheney Christian Church, The Royal Neighbors of America Lodge and Spokane Lilac Chapter No. 1059.
Her husband, Elmer, died in 1981.
Mrs. Reitmeier is survived by her son, Lloyd Reitmeier of Post Falls; two brothers, Joel and Norman Garner, and two sisters, Georgia Mae Christianson and Lois Terry, all of Colville; and two grandchildren.
Gilbert Himes Spokane
Visitation for Gilbert C. Himes, 87, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home.
Mr. Himes, who was born in Mina, Ark., died Nov. 6.
Mr. Himes worked as a machinist in the trucking industry and was a 10-year Spokane resident.
His wife preceded him in death.
Mr. Himes is survived by four sons, Gilbert III, John, James and Timothy Himes; three daughters, Katherine Himes, Karen Koon and Kristi Collins; two sisters, Rachel Wright and Clara Tumbleson; and three brothers, Joseph, Carl and Birl Himes.
Billie Gardner Spokane
Service for Billie L. Gardner will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mr. Gardner, who was born in Wellston, Okla., died Saturday. He was 69.
He graduated from Kincaide (Kan.) High School in 1948. He served in the Navy for nine years and the Air Force for 11 years, and received the meritorious award. He retired in 1968.
He moved to Spokane in 1967 and opened the first Radio Shack in Spokane in 1968.
Mr. Gardner later worked in the physical plant at Whitworth College for 12 years and retired in 1992.
He was a member of the Garland Avenue Alliance Church, the Hoxie (Kan.) Hole in One Golf Club and the Downriver Golf Course.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Betty; two sons, Michael and Kevin Gardner, both of Spokane; a daughter, Roxanne Lind of Kiev, Ukraine; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Howard Rogers Ritzville, Wash.
Memorial service for Howard E. Rogers, 84, will be June 3 at the Pioneer Cemetery in Washtucna, Wash. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Rogers, who was born in Washtucna died Thursday.
He graduated from high school in 1932 in Washtucna.
Mr. Rogers began farming with his father in 1939.
In in 1940 he married Esther Waarum and they farmed near Washtucna for more than 30 years. He retired in 1970 and recently moved to Ritzville.
His wife died in 1994.
Survivors include a son, Keith Rogers of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a brother, Louie Rogers of Vancouver, Wash.; two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.
Christine O’Leary Spokane
Memorial Mass for Christina H. O’Leary, 89, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. O’Leary, who was born in Cherokee, Kan., died Sunday.
She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from Pittsburgh State Teachers College.
Before marrying Carl O’Leary, Mrs. O’Leary taught English and Latin.
She moved to Spokane in 1980 and was a homemaker and a volunteer teacher at the Barton School for Adult Literacy.
Mrs. O’Leary was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and the P.E.O.
Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Mont O’Leary of Dallas; a daughter, Bridget Piper of Spokane; a brother, R. Price Hays of Kansas City, Kan.; and three granddaughters.

Rena Heitfeld Spirit Lake, Idaho
Memorial Mass for Rena Albinola Heitfeld, 98, will be at 8:30 a.m. today at the small chapel at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. Private burial will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Heitfeld, who was born in Spokane, died Monday.
She worked as a legal secretary in Spokane for many years and was also a medical secretary in Spokane, Kellogg and Coeur d’Alene. Mrs. Heitfeld later worked as a medical librarian and taught music lessons.
Her husband, Walter Heitfeld, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a sister, Louise Leick of Santa Barbara, Calif.; two nieces, and one nephew.
William Thornton Newport, Wash.
Service for William “Bill” E. Thornton will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Enumclaw, Wash., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Thornton, who was born in Paragonah, Utah, died Nov. 2. He was 77.
Mr. Thornton served during World War II. He later worked in a lumber mill in Ione, Wash.
He was a 20-year Spokane resident.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy; seven daughters, Carley Roberts, Junelle Houston, Charlene Kibbe, Evelyn Thornton, Devota Pritchett, Marilyn Konold and Lucille Thornton; a son, Elwood Thornton; 35 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
Doris Torpey Spokane
No service will be held for Doris M. Torpey, 81, at her request. Private inunment will be held at a later date. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 49-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Torpey died Friday. She was born in Grand Forks, British Columbia.
She taught school for more than four years in Taghum and Kimberley, British Columbia.
During World War II she served as a codes and cypher clerk for the Royal Canadian Air Force. She was stationed in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
She received a teaching degree from Eastern Washington State College. In 1956, she married John Torpey Jr.
Mrs. Torpey taught at Roosevelt and Wilson elementary schools and at the Shriners Hospital for Children. She retired in 1983.
She was a member of Westminster Congregational Church, Daughters of the British Empire, and the Spokane Garden Club.
Her husband died in 1963.
Survivors include three sons, Daniel Torpey of Spokane, John Torpey of Aberdeen, Wash., and James Torpey of Redmond, Wash.; a daughter, Patti Lockhart of Santa Marie, Calif.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Beatrice Pendell Cheney
Service for Beatrice Mae Pendell, 89, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

She graduated from North Central High School and Cheney Normal School.
Mrs. Pendell worked as an elementary school teacher for School District 81 and retired after 35 years.
She was a member and past matron of the Martha Chapter No. 60 of the Order of Eastern Star. She also was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, Retired Teachers Association, Ameranth, Cheney United Methodist Church and Four Lakes Grange.
Her husband, Harold, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Pendell is survived by a son, Harold Pendell of Gig Harbor, Wash.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Lloyd Babin Wallace
Memorial service for Lloyd Dale Babin, 80, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Prichard Fire Hall at Babin’s Junction near Prichard, Idaho. Private burial will be held at the Babin family cemetery. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Babin, who was born in Wallace, died Monday.
He grew up and attended Beaver Creek and Prichard grade schools and graduated in 1937 from Wallace High School.
Mr. Babin worked for Catlow Transfer in Spokane before serving with the Army Air Corps 8th Air Force during World War II as a sergeant in the European Theater. He was a B-17 tailgunner and radio operator with the 351st Bomb Group, 309th Squadron. He flew 34 missions over Germany, where he was shot down twice and served nine months as a prisoner of war.
Mr. Babin earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, the European Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart.
He returned to North Idaho after his military service and married Josephine “Jo” Bayer in 1947. They lived at Babin’s Junction on the North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River.
Mr. Babin worked in the timber industry before moving to Spokane in 1954, where he worked as a truck driver for Beardmore Heavy Haul. He purchased his first backhoe in 1968, and returned to Babin’s Junction in 1970 and operated a construction business. He also built a trailer park and Babin’s Store.
Mr. Babin was well-known for feeding elk, deer and other wildlife in the Babin’s Junction area. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Osburn, Idaho.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Claudia Childress of Murray, Idaho; three sons, Kenneth Babin of Sandpoint, Roger Babin of Spokane and Richard Babin of Babin’s Junction; two half-sisters, Bonnie Clouse of California and Joan Frye of Lewiston; three stepsisters, Lorena Frost of Anchorage, Alaska, Wilma Johnson of Renton, Wash., and Hazel Graeher, of Spokane; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
