Chiefs Win Again, Stand Alone Six-Game Win Streak Has Road Warriors In First Place In West Chiefs 5 Pats 2
Kyle Rossiter and Tim Smith each scored a pair of goals to spark the Spokane Chiefs to a 5-2 Western Hockey League victory over the Regina Pats on Friday at the Agridome.
Spokane, winner of six straight including three on the road, sits alone atop the Western Conference West Division standings, one point ahead of Prince George.
The Chiefs end their four-game road trip today at Swift Current. Spokane returns home for a Friday match against Prince George.
Rossiter staked the Chiefs to a 1-0 advantage with a power-play goal 4:21 into the contest. Lynn Loyns and Kris Callaway assisted on the score.
Karel Mosovsky got the Pats even at 9:21 with a power-play goal. Mosovsky’s goal came just 3 seconds into the man-adavantage opportunity. Brett Lysak was credited with an assist.
Regina took a 2-1 lead 1:43 into the second period when Chris Anderson took a pass from Barret Jackman on the power play and outdueled Spokane goalie Mike Lencucha.
Spokane’s Kris Callaway tied it at 2-2 with a power-play goal at 12:22. Brandin Cote assisted on Callaway’s first WHL goal.
Rossiter gave the Chiefs the lead for good with a goal, his fourth of the season, at 13:16.
Smith scored 38 seconds into the final period to give the Chiefs some breathing room. He added his fifth goal of the season at the 16:07 mark with an assist from Derek Schutz.
Spokane, 13-6-0, hasn’t had a six-game winning streak since January of 1998. The Chiefs, whose last road defeat was Oct. 30 at Tri-City, sport a 4-4-0 mark on the road.
Spokane, which has won 13 of its last 16 contests, has now won 10 of 11 this season when leading after two periods.
