SOUTH

Virginia 34, Maryland 30: Dan Ellis threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Billy McMullen with 26 seconds left as the Cavaliers (7-4, 5-3 ACC) overcame a Maryland school-record 306-yard rushing performance by LaMont Jordan to defeat the Terrapins (5-6, 2-6) at College Park, Md.

Virginia clinched its 13th consecutive season with at least seven wins and crushed the bowl hopes of the Terrapins, who were poised to make their first trip to postseason play since 1990.

North Carolina 38, Duke 0: At Chapel Hill, N.C., Josh McGee set a school record with six field goals as the Tar Heels (3-8, 2-6 ACC) defeated the Blue Devils (3-8, 3-5) for the 10th consecutive time.

Clemson 31, South Carolina 21: Travis Zachery rushed for two touchdowns and Woody Dantzler threw a 29-yard scoring pass to Rod Gardner on 4th-and-10 with 6 minutes left as the Tigers (6-5) defeated the Gamecocks (0-11) at Columbia, S.C.

Miami 55, Rutgers 0: Ken Dorsey threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in his first college start, and fellow freshman Clinton Portis rushed for 133 yards and a score as the Hurricanes (6-4, 4-1 Big East) crushed the Scarlet Knights (1-10, 1-6) at Miami.

Dorsey completed 19 of 26 passes for 194 yards for the Hurricanes, who started freshmen at quarterback and running back for the first time in more than 20 years.

SOUTHWEST

Texas Tech 38, Oklahoma 28: Kliff Kingsbury threw for 259 yards and three TDs and linebacker Kyle Shipley forced a fumble that led to a touchdown as the Red Raiders (6-5, 5-3 Big 12) beat the Sooners (6-4, 3-4) at Lubbock, Texas.

Texas Tech went ahead 38-21 with an 8-play, 40-yard drive that culminated in an 18-yard touchdown pass from Kingsbury to Tim Baker with 3:54 left.

Southern Methodist 28, Tulsa 14: Josh McCown set a school record by completing 19 consecutive passes, finishing 24 of 29 for 300 yards and three touchdowns as the Mustangs (4-5, 3-2 WAC) defeated the Golden Hurricane (2-9, 1-6) at Tulsa, Okla.

Oklahoma St. 34, Baylor 14: Terance Richardson returned a punt 52 yards for a touchdown as the Cowboys (5-5, 3-4) scored 24 unanswered second-quarter points and beat the Bears (1-10, 0-8) at Waco, Texas.

Baylor became the first Big 12 team to finish its conference schedule winless. The league began in 1996.

MIDWEST

Illinois 29, Northwestern 7: Freshman Brandon Lloyd set up two first-half touchdowns with a punt return and a long reception as the Fighting Illini (7-4, 4-4 Big Ten), 0-11 two years ago, defeated the Wildcats (3-8, 1-7) at Champaign, Ill.

Kansas 31, Iowa St. 28: Carl Nesmith blocked Mike McKnight’s 34-yard field goal attempt with 26 seconds left and the Jayhawks (5-7, 3-5 Big 12), who nearly blew a 10-point lead in the final minutes, held on to defeat the Cyclones (4-7, 1-7) at Lawrence, Kan.

WEST

Wyoming 42, New Mexico 28: Cliff Brye rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns and Jay Stoner threw two touchdown passes to lift the Cowboys (7-3, 4-2 Mountain West) over the Lobos (3-7, 2-4) at Laramie, Wyo.

Brye’s scoring runs of 41 and 78 yards boosted Wyoming to its third consecutive victory and sent New Mexico to its third straight loss.

San Diego St. 37, UNLV 7: Jonas Lewis rushed for 145 yards and a touchdown to lead the Aztecs (4-6, 2-4 Mountain West) past the Runnin’ Rebels (3-7, 1-5) at Las Vegas.

Fresno St. 63, San Jose St. 12: Billy Volek passed for five TDs and Josh Levi scored on a school-record 94-yard run as the Bulldogs (8-4, 5-2 WAC) routed the Spartans (2-9, 1-6) at Fresno, Calif.

EAST

Houston 26, Army 14: Mike Green rushed for 162 yards and two touchdowns as the Cougars (7-4, 3-3 C-USA) defeated the Cadets (3-7, 1-5) at West Point, N.Y.

AND THE REST

Travis Anglin and Neil Suber each threw touchdown passes and Memphis blocked a field goal to set up a third score in the Tigers’ 21-13 victory over Cincinnati at Cincinnati.

Travis Prentice ran for 49 yards to break the NCAA’s record for Division I-A rushing touchdowns and lead Miami of Ohio to a 43-0 victory over Buffalo in the Mid-American Conference on Saturday.

Chris Finlen passed for 229 yards and two touchdowns in leading Northern Illinois to a 30-23 victory over Eastern Michigan at DeKalb, Ill.

Chester Taylor rushed for 136 yards and three touchdowns and Tavares Bolden added a pair of scoring passes as Toledo piled up 614 yards of offense in a 45-21 victory over Western Michigan at Toledo, Ohio.

Joe Alls’ 8-yard touchdown run in overtime lifted Bowling Green over Central Florida 33-30 at Orlando, Fla.

Pete Shepherd threw for 312 yards and Ira Gooch ran for 131 to lead Central Michigan to a 27-21 win over Ball State at Muncie, Ind.

Brent Bergeron’s third field goal, a 32-yarder in overtime, gave Louisiana-Lafayette a 37-34 victory over Wofford at Lafayette, La.

Jake Arians kicked a 37-yard field goal on Alabama-Birmingham’s first possession of overtime to give the Blazers a 23-20 victory over Tulane at New Orleans.

Tyrone Calico ran 16 yards for a touchdown and grabbed a 15-yard scoring pass from Wes Counts as Middle Tennessee stopped East Tennessee State 24-7 at Murfreesboro, Tenn.
