Cougars Passive In Defeat
Kristin Koetsier scored 14 of her game-high 21 points in the second half and added a game-high 16 rebounds to help Western Michigan (1-1) overcome a nine-point halftime deficit in the Broncos’ 68-65 women’s basketball win over the Washington State Cougars (0-2) in the Coors Classic in Boulder, Colo., Friday night.
WSU built a 40-31 lead at intermission behind 14 first-half points from senior Alke Dietel.
“They picked up and started to play more and more aggressive, and we played less and less aggressive,” WSU coach Jenny Przkewas said. “They played harder and faster and we were standing around.”
WSU plays Wright State, a 76-49 loser to Colorado, in the consolation game at 4:30 p.m. today.
Eastern Washington lost to Cleveland State 88-65 at the LMU-Furama Thanksgiving Classic in Los Angeles, despite the game being tied 47-47 at the half.
EWU’s Tracy Ford-Phelps and Cleveland State’s Audra Cook each finished with a game-high 20 points.

Idaho’s Alli Nieman scored a game-high 21 points, but the Vandals (1-2) still dropped a 66-63 decision to the California Bears (2-0) at the Rocky Mountain Classic in Fort Collins, Colo.

Jill Adams scored 15 points to lead four players in double figures, and the Brigham Young Cougars rolled to a 77-58 non-conference victory over the Gonzaga Bulldogs at Marriott Center in Provo, Utah.
Holly Bruno scored a game-high 18 points for the Bulldogs.
Karie Pruett scored a game-high 19 points in 20 minutes of play and the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch went on to crush the Portland Community College Panthers 93-58 at the Walla Walla Crossover tournament.
The Sasquatch play Eastern Oregon junior varsity today at 4 p.m.
Anna Getz hit 9 of her 19 shots from the floor en route to a game-high 22 points and the North Idaho Cardinals went on to defeat Yakima Valley 65-48 at the Columbia Basin College tournament in Pasco.
NIC (4-0) plays Columbia Basin for the tourney title tonight at 8.
Women’s volleyball
Notre Dame claimed its 20th win of the season with a 15-10, 15-4, 15-6 sweep of Washington State at the Pacific Community Bankers Classic Tournament at the A.G. Spanos Center in Stockton, Calif.
WSU’s Adrian Hankoff and Notre Dame’s Christi Girton had 10 kills each. Mary Leffers had eight blocks and 10 digs for the Irish (20-7), who hit .356 for the match. Hankoff also led WSU (13-14) with 11 digs.
WSU completes its season against Sacramento State in the consolation match tonight at 5. Pacific beat Sacramento State 15-9, 15-13, 15-5 in the second game.
Lacey Coover had 13 kills and 14 digs to lead the Eastern Washington Eagles (23-7) to a 15-11, 15-7, 15-6 sweep over the Boise State Broncos (8-20) at the Idaho Challenge tournament in Moscow. In the second match, the Idaho Vandals cruised to a 15-1, 15-11, 15-11 sweep over the Gonzaga Bulldogs.
Jenny Kniss had 11 kills and nine digs to lead Idaho (17-14). Shannon O’Connor topped Gonzaga (6-23) with 11 kills.
