Zelda Caryl Spokane
Service for Zelda C. Caryl, 82, will be at 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Caryl died Wednesday.
She worked as a typesetter and printer in the publishing industry.
Mrs. Caryl was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Order of Eastern Star.
Her husband, Earl Caryl, died in 1987.
Survivors include a daughter, Charlene Alderman of Spokane; a brother, Maurice Farber; four grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Harold Schumacher Colfax, Wash.
Memorial service for Harold H. Schumacher, 83, will be at 2 p.m. today at Peace Lutheran Church in Colfax. Private burial will precede the service at Colfax Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Bowman, N.D., Mr. Schumacher died Tuesday.
He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in Tennessee. In 1937 he moved to Whitman County, Wash., and worked for various farmers.
He married Esther Gunn in 1939.
During World War II he worked in the shipyards in the Portland area.
After the war he moved to Colfax and worked for farmers in the area before being employed by Colfax Motors. Mr. Schumacher also worked for Palouse Producer and NuChem. He later worked as a custodian at Washington State University. He retired in 1982 and began working part-time for NuChem.
Mr. Schumacher was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Colfax Golf Club, International Order of Odd Fellows and the Palouse Grange.
His wife died in 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Marlene Carroll of Colfax; a son, Harvey Schumacher of Akron, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mildred Daley Spokane
Funeral Mass for Mildred J. Daley, 77, is planned for 10 a.m. today at the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Daley, who was born in Baker, Ore., died Wednesday.
She was a homemaker and a 50-year Spokane resident.
Her husband, Angelo Daley, died in 1982.
Survivors include three daughters, Colleen and Kathleen Daley and Theresa Schinzel, all of Spokane; two sons, William and Steven Daley, both of Spokane; two sisters, Myrtle Brown of Orofino, Idaho, and Maxine Daley of California; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Helen Melton Spokane
Visitation for Helen J. Melton, 85, will be from noon to 5 p.m. today and Sunday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Service is planned for 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Melton, who was born in Troy, Idaho, died Nov. 20.
She graduated from Oregon College of Education in 1936 and taught school in Oregon for seven years.
She served in the Army during World War II and then moved to Alaska and continued teaching.
She moved to Spokane in 1972 after she retired.
Mrs. Melton was a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star and was a member of the Alaskan Pioneers.
Her husband, Carl Melton, died in 1982 Survivors include a daughter, Hilda Martin of Spokane; a brother, Earl Pearson of Beaverton, Ore.; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
Marjorie Benjamin Spokane
No service will be held for Marjorie A. Benjamin at her request. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Benjamin, who was born in Great Falls, Mont., died Wednesday. She was 83.
She was a homemaker and a 70-year Spokane resident.
Her husband, Raymond, died in 1981.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Thiringer, and a sister, Ethel Phillips, both of Spokane; and two grandchildren.
Pauline Jessup Spokane
Service for Pauline Mae Jessup, 82, will be at 11 a.m. today in Sunset Mausoleum at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A Spokane resident for more than 60 years, Mrs. Jessup died Monday.
She was born in Joplin, Mo. Mrs. Jessup was a homemaker and a member of the Home League.
Her husband, Bert Jessup, died in 1986.
Survivors include a son, Paul Jessup of Spokane; four daughters, Patty Oberg and Norma Smidt, both of Spokane, Roberta Verhaag of Valley, Wash., and Sharon Jessup-Vafiadis of Little Rock, Calif.; two brothers, Andrew McConnel of Spokane and Earl McConnel of Joplin; three sisters, Mary Rist and Phyllis Clark, both of Joplin, and Donetta Bennett of Emporia, Kan.; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
George Webster Jr. Spokane
Memorial service for George C. Webster Jr., 75, will be at 11 a.m. today at Fairwood Community Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 38-year Spokane resident, Mr. Webster died Thursday. He was born in Florence, Colo.
During World War II, he served as a paratrooper Mr. Webster worked as a diesel mechanic.
He was a member of the Fairwood Community Church.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl; a son, George Webster III of Spokane; a daughter, Lorraine Martin of Rufus, Ore.; a sister, Frances Mills of Bend, Ore.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Garth Stewart Spokane
Memorial service for Garth B. Stewart, 44, will be at 11 a.m. today at Assumption Roman Catholic Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Stewart died Wednesday.
He worked for Silver Eagle Trucking Co. and was a co-owner in a concrete edging company.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Debbie; two children, Angie and Tracy; his parents, George and Molly; two brothers, Brad and Deacon Kelly; and a granddaughter.
George Moore Spokane
Service for George E. Moore, 89, will be at 10 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Visitation will be held prior to the service. Graveside service will follow at Spring Canyon Cemetery.
Mr. Moore, who was born in Gerome, Wash., died Monday.
He worked in construction and pipefitting on the Grand Coulee, Boundary, Chief Joseph, Wanapma, Little Goose and McNary dams. Mr. Moore moved to Spokane in 1953 from Coulee Dam, Wash.
He retired in 1972 from Pipefitters Local 44. Mr. Moore was a member of the Colville Confederated Tribes.
His wife, Lois, died in 1994.
Survivors include a son, Tad Moore of Coulee Dam; four daughters, Helen York of Spokane, and Harriet Williams, Patricia Shirts and Charlene Thrash, all of Nine Mile Falls; 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Samuel Petersen Spokane
Service for Samuel Petersen, a former Wallace resident, was Friday at Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park. Burial was at the Holy Redeemer/Kelly Cemetery in Deer Park.
Mr. Petersen, 86, died Tuesday.
He was born in Spokane.
He was a miner at the Hansy Mine in the Wallace area. He later worked as a custodian for the Wallace School District.
He moved back to Spokane in 1990.
His wife, Hanna Petersen, died in 1997 Survivors include two sons, Larry Petersen of Medical Lake and Dean Petersen of St. Maries; two daughters, Jane Orton of Meridian, Idaho, and Janet VanDyke of Osburn, Idaho; and a sister, Ruby Brown of Sprague, Wash.
Douglas Austin Blanchard, Idaho
Private service for Douglas M. Austin, 68, will be held at a later date. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Austin, who was born in Spokane, died Tuesday.
He lived in Spokane and was a selfemployed carpet installer. He moved to Blanchard in 1996.
Mr. Austin was a member of the Boise American Legion Post and the Sunset Grange in Spokane.
Survivors include a son, Stacey Austin of Blanchard; three sisters, Phyllis Morris of Greenacres, Louise Winn of Spokane and Harriet Frank of Conkling Park, Idaho; and one granddaughter.
Berniece Moll Deer Park
Service for Berniece Florence Moll, 85, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Clayton (Wash.) Community Church. Burial will follow at Zion Hill/Trysil Cemetery in Clayton, Wash. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Sixteen, Mont., Mrs. Moll died Tuesday.
She was a longtime Deer Park resident and was a former Clayton resident.
She worked for Moll’s Grocery Store, and DePaola’s and LaVon’s department stores. She also was an Avon representative in Deer Park.
She was a member of the Gardenspot Grange.
Her husband, Bill, died in 1983.
Survivors include two daughters, Rita Casberg of Clayton and Verla Meyer of Loon Lake, Wash.; a brother, Clayton White of Spokane; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Leona Riffle Silverton, Idaho
Memorial service for Leona Mae Riffle, 76, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Riffle, who was born in Nebraska, died Wednesday.
She graduated from high school in Natrona, Wyo., and lived in New Jersey before settling in the Silver Valley in 1962.
In 1965 she married Byron “Rusty” Riffle. She had worked in various factories.
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, which she had served as past president. She also was a gardener and crochet craftsman.
Her husband died in 1980.
Mrs. Riffle is survived by a daughter, Virginia Best of Wallace; a brother, Vic Overman of Osburn, Idaho; four sisters, Pat Dunn of Pinehurst, Idaho, Linnie Sternitzky of Maple Valley, Wash., Inez Krueger of Hauser Lake, Idaho, and Elenore White of Spokane; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Deloris (Taylor) Mason Colville, Wash.
Memorial service for Deloris Jean (Taylor) Mason, 53, will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville.
Mrs. Mason, who was born in Colville, died Nov. 20.
She graduated from Colville High School in 1965. In 1966 she got married and moved to Republic, Wash.
Mrs. Mason moved to Kettle Falls, Wash., in the late 1970s and worked at the Little Gallea Restaurant.
In the 1980s she moved to Dodge City, Kan.
She returned to the Colville area in 1995 and worked as a certified nurses assistant at Pinewood Terrace Nursing Home.
Survivors include a son, Michael Mason of Kettle Falls; a daughter, Valerie Love of Aurora, Colo.; three brothers, Lawrence Taylor of Chewelah, Wash., Lennie Taylor of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Larry Taylor of Pendleton, Ore.; eight sisters, Joyce Deasy of Spokane, Helen Brugger of Chewelah, Bonnie McKinney of Addy, Wash., Marva Walsh and Donna Bowlby, both of Colville, Mary Quade of Evans, Wash., Anna Bauer of Kennewick and Ellen Forbes of Sea Tac, Wash.; and four grandchildren.
Robert Albin Spokane
Memorial service for Robert D. Albin was Friday at Opportunity Free Methodist Church.
Born in Omaha, Neb., Mr. Albin died Tuesday. He was 82.
He was a 33-year Spokane resident and owned Roberto’s Restaurant for three years.
He was a member and greeter at Opportunity Free Methodist Church.
Mr. Albin is survived by his wife of 37 years, Virginia; two sons, Don Russell of Spokane and Robert Albin of Lake Tahoe, Nev.; three daughters, Shirley Johnston of Boise, Carol Cooper of Lakeport, Calif., and Diana Beckman of Winnemucca, Nev.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Wilson `Riley’ Vance Spokane
Memorial service for Wilson “Riley” Vance, 65, will be held at a later date. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Vance, who was born in Toone, Tenn., died Wednesday.
He served in the Air Force and retired in 1984 as a lieutenant colonel.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Shirley; a son, Wilson Vance Jr. of Seattle; a daughter, Carroll Robertson of Pensacola, Fla.; a sister, Peggy Herring of Hueytown, Ala.; and two grandchildren.
