Forest Payments Total $650,000

The five North Idaho counties received more than $650,000 in payments that make up for property tax exemptions on federal lands. More than $8.3 million went to all Idaho counties. The money comes from a fund that compensates counties for tax-exempt federal lands managed by agencies including the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Congress appropriates the payments annually.

Idaho this year received the eighth-largest share of the money in the country.
