Shadle Trips Ferris 3-1

Rachel Jones and Jamie Vanos scored on counterattacks in the closing minutes Wednesday, and visiting Shadle Park upset Ferris 3-1 in Greater Spokane League girls soccer.

Ferris was attempting to tie the match at 2 after Jones’ goal at 77 minutes. Shadle gathered in the ball and sent a long kick downfield for Vanos’ back-breaking goal.

The Ferris (3-1) loss leaves Mead (5-0) as the last undefeated team in the league. Shadle (3-2) jumped ahead of Ferris in the standings, based on the league’s points system.

Also in the GSL Wednesday, Jael Hagerott’s 18-yard goal completed Mead’s 2-0 win over East Valley at Albi Stadium. Hagerott beat the EV sweeper for a one-on-one chance against goalkeeper Tiera Como. Mead plays at Ferris at 3 p.m. Friday. The Panthers are looking for their 13th league championship in 14 years… . Mt. Spokane (3-1) tied Shadle and Central Valley for third place with a 1-0 win over North Central, also at Albi. Landis Welbourn fed Lindsey Armistoso for the winner… . CV (3-1) defeated University 2-1 in overtime at U-Hi. Jamie Danelo began the winning play with an interception and shot that hit the crossbar. Jessie Torres rebounded the miss to score at 87 minutes… . Nine players scored as second-place Lewis and Clark (4-1) defeated Rogers 9-0 at Hart Field.

Visiting Lake City (10-1-1, 7-1) defeated Moscow 2-1 in the Border League. Moscow is 11-3-1, 6-1.

Volleyball

Jodi Hultquist had 20 kills and Danielle Stewart added nine, leading Mt. Spokane to a 15-5, 16-14, 12-15, 14-16, 15-13 non-league win over visiting Central Valley. CV won the fourth game after trailing 6-0, but Mt. Spokane opened the fifth game with a 5-0 lead. Mt. Spokane defeated CV 3-0 on Sept. 21 for its first GSL win in history.
