Workshop Will Focus On Volunteers

If you’ve wondered how to get the most out of your volunteers, check out a workshop Thursday at the Shriners Hospital Auditorium. The event is offered by Directors of Volunteers in Agencies of the Inland Northwest.

All volunteer managers at area nonprofit organizations are invited to attend. Topics include helping staff work effectively with volunteers and developing success habits. Featured speaker is Richard Lynch, a Seattle-based management consultant.

The workshop, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., costs $50 for DOVIA members; $55 for nonmembers. Lunch is included. A late fee of $10 is required after Monday. To register, call 328-2953, ext. 48.

AIDS coalition fund-raiser

North Idaho AIDS Coalition will stage its annual wine tasting and silent auction from 4 to 7 p.m. next Sunday at the Clark House on Hayden Lake. The evening will include wines from Inland Northwest wineries, a silent auction, refreshments and live music.

Clark House is at 4550 E. South Hayden Lake Road. Tickets are $25, available through the North Idaho coalition and the Spokane AIDS Network. They may also be bought by calling (208) 762-8197.

Firefighters help local charities

Spokane firefighters will sign copies of Inland Northwest Firefighter 2000 calendar from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Shadle Hastings, 1704 W. Wellesley. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Wishing Star Foundation and the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.

Movies for food

Now’s your chance to catch a showing of a movie you’ve been wanting to see while helping the Spokane Food Bank.

Saturday is the 19th annual CANS Film Festival at all Regal theaters in Spokane. A donation of three cans of food will get you into the movie and a free popcorn.

Two sets of shows will be part of the festival. The first set will start between 9:45 and 10:30 a.m., and the second will start between 11:30 a.m. and 12:45 a.m.

Participating theaters in Spokane include the Valley Mall, Newport, North Division, Lyons Avenue, Fox, Lincoln Heights, Eastside and East Sprague.

Habitat volunteer fair

Here’s your chance to learn all aspects of Habitat for Humanity. St. Mark’s Lutheran Church at 24th and Grand will host a volunteer fair at 7 p.m. Monday. Hammers are optional.

If you ever find yourself in need of a notary but don’t know where to find one, check out www.findanotary.com. It lists more than 2,000 notaries by location. While helpful, the site isn’t a definitive list of notaries (only two from Spokane are listed), since each person must purchase a membership to be listed.
