She’S Fiddling Around Down In Pullman

Don’t let your eyes glaze over after reading the term “dancing fiddler.” Natalie MacMaster once opened for Carlos Santana.

MacMaster, who performs traditional jigs and step dancing, mesmerized a Chattanooga crowd of some 80,000 that night in 1995, reviewers wrote. Even broken fiddle strings didn’t slow the Nova Scotia native as she kept playing with just the two bottom ones.

The 27-year-old, who has toured around the world with folk and Celtic festivals, also plays classical, ragtime and country music.

She’s played the fiddle since age 9, earning the title of “fiddle prodigy” from the Toronto Star.

MacMaster will take the stage at Washington State University’s Beasley Coliseum on Monday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12.50 ($8 for students), available through G&B Select-a-Seat and at Beasley.
