Cycle Crashes Kill 1, Injure 4
One man was killed and four people injured in two accidents Friday involving motorcycles.
Bobby Eugene Hendrickson, 63, of Bonners Ferry died at the scene after he lost control of his Kawasaki motorcycle on State Highway 1 just before 4 p.m., the Idaho State Police said.
Hendrickson lost control of his motorcycle on a curve, and it flipped in roadside gravel, throwing him off. Alcohol was a factor in the accident, police said. Hendrickson was not wearing a helmet.
A Boise woman remained in serious condition Saturday night after another accident Friday afternoon. Justin R. Cordle, 16, was southbound on State Highway 3 in his Ford pickup when he came up too quickly behind another car and swerved to avoid rear-ending it, police said.
Cordle ended up side-swiping the car’s passenger side, blocking oncoming traffic.
A group of about 16 motorcyclists was forced to stop, sending several riders crashing to the ground.
Cheryl Cope, 39, of Boise, remained in serious condition Saturday, according to a Kootenai Medical Center spokeswoman. Cope was the passenger on a Harley Davidson operated by 43-year-old Keith Cope, who was in fair condition Saturday.
A motorcycle behind the Copes also crashed, then slid into them.
The people on the other motorcycle were treated and released at KMC, according to the hospital. None of the motorcyclists was wearing a helmet, police said.
Cordle was cited for inattentive driving, police said.
