Education Specialist Program Accredited
The University of Idaho’s Psychology Department has received accreditation for its education specialist graduate program from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
The three-year graduate degree program allows students to provide a broad range of services for school systems serving students from preschool age to 21-years-old. The national accreditation remains effective through 2003.
Tom Fairchild, professor of counseling and school psychology, said students in the education specialist program receive training and hands-on experience in three main areas: assessment, which includes but is not limited to special needs students; counseling; and consultations with teachers and parents.
Graduates must complete 79 credit hours and 1,700 hours of supervised fieldwork. The program, founded in 1964, has a current enrollment of more than 50 students split evenly between the University of Idaho’s main campus in Moscow and its Boise center.
