Agnes (Kiser) Harris Spokane
Agnes (Kiser) Harris celebrated her 100th birthday Saturday with a gathering at the home of her grandson and his wife, Steven and Elizabeth Hughes.
Agnes Kiser was born Sept. 11, 1899, in Sanoma, Calif., to immigrant parents from Switzerland.
On Jan. 20, 1919, she married Robert E. Harris, after he returned from France, where he served during World War I. After her husband’s death in 1967, Harris continued living in California until she was 76, when she moved to the Spokane Valley to be close to family. She now lives in Brighton Court Manor, an assisted-living home.
In addition to being a homemaker, for a time she cut and packed pears for a fruit-packing plant.
Harris, who speaks fluent Swiss-German, has collected stamps since she was 11 and enjoys reading.
She has “a fantastic sense of humor and is a joy to be around,” said Steven Hughes.
Her children are Alice Shattuck and Agnes Hughes, both of the Spokane Valley, and Robert Harris, Redding, Calif.
Harris has 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
