Mary Brebner Boise
Funeral mass for Mary Caroline Brebner, a former North Idaho resident, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Maries. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Brebner, who was born in St. Maries, died Saturday. She was 68. She grew up in St. Maries and later taught at Catholic schools in the Idaho cites of Cottonwood, Nezperce and Greencreek.
She then attended Mount Mary College in Yankton, S.D., and received training as an X-ray technician. She worked in X-ray purchasing at St. Mary’s Hospital in Cottonwood before settling in Boise.
She worked as an X-ray technician and department head at Emerald Professional Park in Boise, was a volunteer with the Boise Area Prison Ministry and served as a tutor at St. Mary’s Grade School.
Survivors include three sisters, Frances Stillmaker of Oregon, Lucille Nelson of St. Maries and Helen Brebner of Cottonwood; and a brother, William Brebner of St. Maries.
Roland `Wightie’ Wightman Spokane
Private memorial service for longtime Spokane attorney Roland “Wightie” Wightman will be held at a later date in Peshastin, Wash.
Mr. Wightman, 78, died last Friday.
He was born in Quincy, Wash., and graduated from Quincy High School.
Mr. Wightman attended Washington State College before enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1942. He was among the first Marines to hit the beach at Okinawa, and he held the rank of first lieutenant upon his discharge in 1946. He also served in the Marine Corps Reserve until 1953.
After receiving his law degree from Gonzaga University, Mr. Wightman practiced law in Spokane and Davenport, Wash., for nearly 50 years, both in private practice and as corporation counsel for the city of Spokane.
Mr. Wightman served on Spokane County’s Developmental Disabilities Board and in 1993 was given a civic achievement award for his work. He was a member of the Disabled America Veterans and held leadership positions in parent-teacher groups at Finch Elementary, Glover Middle School and Shadle Park High School.
His wife, Joan, died in 1986.
Survivors include two daughters, Jan Blair of Liberty Lake and Elizabeth Wightman of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one son, John “Rollie” Wightman of Phoenix; and eight grandchildren.

Frank Wickwire Spokane
Service for Frank W. Wickwire, 81, will be at 11 a.m. today in Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wickwire, who died Tuesday, was born in Bozeman, Mont.
He was a 75-year Spokane resident and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1935.
Mr. Wickwire owned and operated the cigar stand at the Davenport Hotel during the early 1960s. He later worked as a bookkeeper for Thermal Supply.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Betty; a son, Gary Wickwire, and a daughter, Julie Heath, both of Spokane; a stepdaughter, Penny Miller of Issaquah, Wash.; a brother, Parker Wickwire of Tigard, Ore.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Darlene Byford Spokane
Memorial service for Darlene Byford, 65, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant View Church in Post Falls. Burial was at Pleasant View Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Byford, who died Saturday, was born in Anaconda, Mont.
She was a 33-year Spokane resident, a homemaker and a member of Pleasant View Church.
Her husband, Charles, died in 1997.
Mrs. Byford is survived by three sons, Randy, Darrell and Jack Easley, all of Spokane; five brothers, Lester, Howard, Robert, Merle and Kenneth Stone, all of Anaconda; two sisters, Dorothy Johnson of Coeur d’Alene and Roslie VanderZawan of Las Vegas; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Robert Sjolin Hayden, Idaho
No service will be held for Robert Carl Sjolin, 75, at his request. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Sjolin, who was born in Cleveland, Ohio, died Thursday.
He grew up and graduated from high school in Cleveland and then served with the Army during World War II.
Mr. Sjolin returned to Cleveland after his military service and in 1957 married Ina McCrobie. He worked in the automotive and truck parts industry.
He moved to the Coeur d’Alene area in 1978. His wife died in 1980.
Survivors include special friend, Edith Blakeley of Hayden.
Raymond Stoddard Spokane
Visitation for Raymond Donald Stoddard, 76, will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. held today at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home. Service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Stoddard, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Tuesday.
He moved to Spokane where he and worked as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of the Operating Engineers Union.
Three wives preceded him in death: Peggy, Nancy and Katherine.
Survivors include three daughters, Judy Stoddard of North Bend, Wash., Mary Rimstad of Everett and Nanci Walker of California; two sons, William McCauley of Miami and Joel McCauley of California; four brothers, Walter Stoddard of Spokane, Thomas and Robert Stoddard, both of Hayden, Idaho, and Kenneth Stoddard of Post Falls; two sisters, Doris Breeden and Barbara Rogers, both of Spokane; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Memorial contributions may be made to a local hospice organization.
Dale Schultz Sublimity, Ore.
Memorial service for A. Dale Schultz, 86, will be at 4 p.m. today at Centenary United Methodist Church in Spokane. Private inurnment will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Restlawn Funeral Home in Salem, Ore., is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Schultz, who was born in Marlin, Wash., died Saturday.
He graduated from Valley (Wash.) High School.
Mr. Schultz married Florice Rose Wallace in 1935.
He worked on the Grand Coulee Dam with the Bureau of Reclamation for six years. He later worked for the U.S. Geological Survey for 34 years in Menlo Park, Calif., making topological maps. He retired in 1973 as a topographical engineer.
Mr. Schultz moved to Spokane in 1977 and recently had moved to Sublimity.
He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sandra Onstot of Turner, Ore., and Carol Schultz of Menlo Park; two sisters, Valdene Morgan of Deer Lake, Wash., and Alice Ewing of Sandpoint; three grandsons and one great-grandson.

Wilma Mitchell Centralia, Wash.
Memorial service for Wilma E. Mitchell, 83, is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Tenino (Wash.) First Presbyterian Church. Newell-Hoerling’s Mortuary in Centralia is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Mitchell, who died Sept. 5, was born in Brainerd, Minn. She moved to Spokane with her family in 1919.
She worked as a dental technician before marrying Ollie Mitchell in 1945. They moved to Federal Way, Wash., in the 1960s.
She was a homemaker and a member of Steel Lake Presbyterian Church in Federal Way, Wash.
After her husband died in 1993 she moved to Centralia.
Mrs. Mitchell is survived by a son, David Mitchell of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; two daughters, Betty Henchel of Spokane and Nancy Nyreen of Rainier, Wash.; a brother, Herald Brazier of Spokane; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Service for Claude F. Evans, 83, will be at 11 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Evans died Tuesday.
He graduated from North Central High School and served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific, and during the Korean War. He also served in the Army Reserve and the Army National Guard. He retired as a command sergeant major.
Mr. Evans also worked as a mail carrier for the Postal Service and retired in 1975.
He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 51.
His wife, Lucille, died in 1989.
Survivors include a son, Larry Evans of Spokane; four daughters, Lynda Losh, Lori Henderson and Sharon Koegler, all of Spokane, and Pat Ishmael of Charleston, S.C.; a brother, Richard Evans of Spokane; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Pearl Singer Spokane
Service for Pearl D. Singer, 79, will be at 11 a.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mount Nebo Cemetery.
Mrs. Singer, who died Wednesday, was a lifetime Spokane resident.
She volunteered with the Victim-Witness Office, Spokane Food Bank, Ronald McDonald House, Project Joy, Spokane Public Radio, B’nai B’rith Dolls for Democracy Program and the Holmes School Reading Program.
In 1998, Mrs. Singer and her husband received the J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award for community service.
She was a member of Temple Beth Shalom, B’nai B’rith Women, Hadassah and Kenesseth Israel Synagogue, where she also was a secretary.
Her husband, Robert Singer, died in 1998.
Mrs. Singer is survived by three sons, Gary and Rick Singer, both of Spokane, and Allen Singer of Orinda, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Lorain Small Stanwood, Wash.
Private burial for Lorain (Gould) Small, 89, will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Gilbertson Funeral Home in Stanwood is in charge of arrangements.
A 50-year former Spokane resident, Mrs. Small died Sunday. She was born in Gate, Wash.
She graduated from Western Washington University in 1943. She later received a master’s degree in ceramics art education from Central Washington University.
Mrs. Small began teaching in 1943 at Lincoln School in Mount Vernon, Wash.
She later worked as a teacher in Spokane. In 1948, she began teaching at Wilson Elementary. She also taught at Sacajawea Middle School. She retired in 1982.
Mrs. Small moved to Stanwood in 1998.
She was a member of the Washington Education Association and the Retired Teachers Associtaion. Her husband, Fred Small, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Doris Northcutt of Greenbank, Wash., and Helen Montgomery of Burlington; a sister, Yolo St. John of Bremerton, Wash.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
