Volleyball

Angel Fairbanks finished with 14 kills, a .540 hitting percentage and 10 digs Wednesday in Community Colleges ofSpokane’s 3-0 volleyball sweep of visiting Walla Walla CC.

Adrianne Edmonds added 14 digs for the Sasquatch, who improved to 3-1 in the NWAACC. Jaime Bishop of the Warriors (1-3) had 13 kills and seven digs in the match at SFCC.

Women’s soccer

Freshman goalkeeper Katie Grothkopp made nine saves for her first career shutout, and visiting Eastern Washington (1-7) defeated Gonzaga 2-0 in a non-league match.

Katie Bowers and Kyla Hamilton scored for the Eagles, who lost to the Zags 10-1 and 5-1 last year.

Men’s soccer

Erik Johnson scored the first goal and set up the second, both in the first 17 minutes, and CCS (10-1-1) defeated the Gonzaga junior varsity 3-2 at SFCC.

Golf

John Harbottle of Tacoma won the Washington State Senior Men’s Amateur tournament for the fourth time when Roy Niznik of Mukilteo, who led for the first two rounds, skied to an 84 in the final round at Blaine.

Jim O’Rourke, playing out of Spokane Country club, finished with a 78 and tied for fifth place.
