Workshops Scheduled For Americorps Hosts
Organizations interested in serving as hosts for AmeriCorps workers may attend one of two workshops in North Idaho.
An AmeriCorps program based at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston provides workers to schools, community-based organizations, Head Start programs, colleges and universities. AmeriCorps workers provide tutoring and mentoring for at-risk students.
At the workshops, staff members from the LCSC AmeriCorps office will explain how to apply to be a host site.
A Coeur d’Alene workshop will be held Thursday in North Idaho College’s student union building. A Lewiston meeting will be Monday in the LCSC student union building. The presentations will run from 9 a.m. until noon.
AmeriCorps members receive a living allowance during their year of service. When they complete it, they receive a stipend for college.
Agencies or organizations that serve as host sites are required to provide a cash match toward the cost of their AmeriCorps workers.
Last year, the LCSC-based program placed 37 workers at 26 sites in Idaho from Bonners Ferry to Boise. Among the host sites were schools, a correctional center, colleges and universities.
