Arts, Activities Group Revived In Rathdrum

From Staff Reports

The Lakeland Arts and Activities Council has been revived in the Rathdrum area, after a seven-year absence.

The council is a volunteer organization and is currently sharing office space with the Rathdrum Area Chamber of Commerce at 840 Main St.

“We want to present a variety of arts and activities not limited to fine arts or any age limit,” said Candy Allen, director of LAAC.

Programs being scheduled for this summer include a two-week art program for kids featuring animal and cultural crafts and a jump-rope class for youth ages 6 through 17.

The first event sponsored by the council will be a workshop featuring Dorene Terryberry, artist and teacher from California, who specializes in lifelike painting. Terryberry will be teaching two four-day workshops in Twin Lakes, May 2-5 and May 9-12. Space is limited.

Terryberry will also conduct a symposium on May 8, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rathdrum Library, 1652 Highway 41, to discuss her painting techniques and answer questions. The symposium is free and open to the public.

For information on the classes or symposium, contact Shirley Davis at 687-5995. For information on the Lakeland Arts and Activities Council, contact Candy Allen at the Rathdrum Chamber of Commerce, 687-2866.
