Lochelt Helps T-Wolves Salvage Split

Ingrid Lochelt’s fourth hit of the game provided the difference Wednesday afternoon in Lake City’s 8-7 softball win at Lewiston for a Border League double-header split.

Lochelt’s two-out single in the eighth inning scored Mandy Kaestner from second base. Lochelt had three other runs batted in to support winning pitcher Bobbi Darretta, who added three RBIs.

Brittenie West scattered six hits and struck out four to lead Lewiston (13-6, 11-4) to a 4-0 win in the opener.

By winning the second game the Timberwolves (15-3, 11-3) dropped into a first-place tie with Coeur d’Alene and remained one-half game ahead of Lewiston.

Loni Baumann pitched her fourth no-hitter of the season in the opener and Teea Stutheit followed with a one-hitter as Lakeland (14-3, 12-0 Intermountain League) swept Priest River 11-0, 17-0 at Rathdrum. Bobbi Jo Tweedy and Stephanie Tierri had three RBIs apiece in the second game. Shawna Cox had the hit for the Spartans (6-9, 5-7).

Baseball

Chase Williams and Jeremy McMillen hit three-run homers in the second game to wrap up Lakeland’s 10-0, 13-3 sweep of Priest River in Intermountain League play at Rathdrum. Jason Thomas struck out six and walked none in five innings, and Randy Russell had a two-run single to lead the Hawks in the first game. Mike Banks struck out eight and Kevin Reese added a two-run homer in the second game. Lakeland (15-4, 10-2) moved within one-half game of St. Maries (10-1). Rylan Wood had four hits on the day for the Spartans (11-5, 7-5).
