Ortiz Plays With Symphony
In 1969, Brazilian pianist Cristina Ortiz became the first (and so far, the only) woman to win first prize in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
Ortiz will perform Serge Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Spokane Symphony tonight in the Opera House.
Conductor Fabio Mechetti has also scheduled two ballet masterpieces for tonight’s concert, Aaron Copland’s “Appalachian Spring” and Maurice Ravel’s “Daphnis et Chloe.”
Mechetti will discuss the music on tonight’s program in a pre-concert talk in the Opera House auditorium at 7. The concert begins at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $33 to $16 and are available at the symphony box office in the Seafirst Building, 624-1200, and through all G&B outlets.
