Sixty-three students from around the state are taking part in a Migrant Student Leadership Institute at Boise State University.

The 12-day conference, sponsored by the Idaho Department of Education, aims to help Hispanic high school students improve academically and personally, said Irene Chavolla, coordinator of the department’s Title 1 Migrant program.

“We bring in mentors from the Hispanic community to talk about careers and colleges and do goal-setting,” she said.

This marks the conference’s second year. It costs $64,000 and is paid with a grant from the Department of Education.
