Benewah County St. Maries

The St. Joe River Boat Club’s annual poker run starts today and continues through Sunday. There are 13 stops, accessible by water or land, in the run. Prizes will be awarded for the best hand at noon Aug. 6 in Harrison City Park. Poker sheets are $5 and are available at Fleet Parts, Carlin Bay Resort and the Gateway Restaurant. Bonner County Sandpoint

Clarity Coffman and Dana Libbey, Sandpoint High School graduates, were awarded $500 scholarships by the Bonner County Human Rights Task Force and share the Stone of Hope award. They helped with this year’s Martin Luther King Jr., celebration held at the school and sponsored a showing of Life is Beautiful at the Panida Theater. Libbey will enter Linfield College and Coffman will attend the University of Rochester.

Boundary County Bonners Ferry

Due to the continued hot weather, the South Hill Water and Sewer company is requesting its customers to limit water usage as much as possible. They also are requesting that customer’s homes with even-number addresses water on even-numbered days and homes with odd-number addresses water on odd-numbered days until further notice.

Kootenai County Rathdrum

Lakeland Soccer Club registration will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 12 at Stein’s IGA. Cost for six to 10 year old players is $30, cost is $35 for players 11 to fourteen years old. T-shirts, which may be used each season, are $15. New players must prove birthdate. Parents of players are required to attend a meeting set for 7 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Rathdrum Senior Center. For details, call Shari Johnson at 687-1581.

Latah County Potlatch

Fiddlers and accompanists from the region will take their turn performing country music during the annual Scenic Six Fiddle Show at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Potlatch High School. The Potlatch Jamers, the Tune Twisters and two dude ranch musicians will be featured at the end of the show. Last year’s event drew 40 performers. Camping space is available at the Scenic Six Park across from the school.

Shoshone County Kellogg

The recent Silver Hoops 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament drew a record 58 teams from the Northwest. Brooks Carver, 16, of Wallace won the slam dunk title and $25, Casey Marek of Kingston won the three-point contest and Mike Marek of Burke won the free throw competition. Only two injuries occurred during the competitions: a broken tailbone and a case of heat exhaustion.

Pend Oreille County Cusick

The school district has $550,000 left over from last year’s capital building project on the Adam Wyke Gymnasium and Bess Herian Middle School, and it’s asking patrons how to spend it. Superintendent Kristi Harwood says the school, “worked hard to be good stewards of this money.” The school board has invited locals to give their input on other projects and needs at any board meeting or, to contact the school with ideas.

Spokane County Spokane

The Spokane Farmers’ Market at Second and Division is putting on a “Sizzlin’ Harvest Festival” with barbecued fruit and vegetable samples on Aug. 12 and 16. The event is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days.

Whitman County Colfax

The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office is urging drivers to use caution with the onset of harvest season. To avoid accidents , be patient and pass slow-moving farm vehicles with care. Slow down in dusty areas and decrease speed on gravel roads.

Lincoln County Libby

Georgine and Mike Powers recently purchased Naturally Good Things from Mary Lou Matilas. Matilas started the health food and products business four-and-a-half years ago. The Powers have their son and daughter-in-law, Mitch and Lisa Powers, managing the business. They plan to add fresh fruit smoothies and sugar-free candies to their line. The business is located at 313 California Ave.
