Wolf Recovery Director Named

From Staff

A federal wolf specialist who has been working in Montana will guide the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s wolf recovery program in Idaho.

Carter Niemeyer will succeed Roy Heberger, who retired in July.

Niemeyer has been working as a wolf specialist in Helena for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services agency, formerly known as Animal Damage Control. Wildlife Services’ work includes investigating livestock deaths in which wolves are suspect.

Niemeyer helped capture Canadian wolves for release in Idaho and Yellowstone National Park, in 1995 and 1996.
