Broken Main Shuts Off Hayden Water
Homes and businesses in Hayden Lake were without water during much of the heat of the day Tuesday after a water main ruptured. Service was restored around 5 p.m.
The Hayden Lake Irrigation District was alerted to the problem before 8 a.m. by a resident of Meadow Way, between Hayden and Dakota avenues. Water was filling the ditches, water district chairman Brian Marcus said. Because of a malfunctioning valve, repairs couldn’t be made until water had been turned off to all 1,000 or so customers. Workers found a hole in a cement water pipe that was 4 inches long and half an inch wide, Marcus said.
“We fortunately had all the pieces we needed to do this,” Marcus said of the repair work. “Nobody in town had them available. It could have taken two days to get this fixed.”
The homes on Meadow Way were never without water. That subdivision is served by the North Kootenai Water District.
