Comment Invited On Energy Plant Permit
Idaho environmental officials are inviting public comment before issuing an air quality permit needed for continued operation of Avista Corp.’s combustion turbine energy plant.
The Rathdrum plant, which opened in 1995, has applied for a five-year operating permit.
The Department of Environmental Quality permit sets the conditions under which a facility must operate in order to prevent air quality problems.
Application for the permit is routine. An Avista spokeswoman said the state is not requesting any changes in the operation.
The state has conducted a detailed technical review of the facility’s design and operating plan, and conducts periodic inspections.
Copies of the permit package are available for review at area libraries and the Department of Environmental Quality office in Coeur d’Alene. Comments can be mailed to: Gary Reinbold, Department of Environmental Quality, 1410 N. Hilton, Boise, ID 83706; or by e-mail to greinbold@deq.state.id.gov.
