The County Lines

WASHINGTON

Adams County Othello

Ideally, the local emergency medical technician crew has 16 members. Currently, only 10 EMTs are taking calls, which means burnout is a looming possibility. The ambulance is run by the Othello Community Hospital, which is looking for people to train as EMTs.

Grant County Quincy

A local man is in custody accused of attempted murder after a teenage girl was found abandoned on a rural road with her throat slashed. Police arrested Alberto Sanchez Zepeda, 21. The victim, 16, told police Zepeda and a friend offered her a ride home. They got into a fight near a grain silo on Badger Mountain Road, where he took out a knife and cut her throat several times, she told police. The victim says she fell over an embankment but was able to climb up after the men left. She was found by a passing motorist.

Lincoln County Deer Meadows

Owners of Deer Meadows Resort and Golf Course are hoping sheriff’s deputies get some solid leads on the prankster who flooded their resort last weekend. At some time last Saturday, someone stuck a paper napkin in the sprinkler system and lit it. The sprinkler system triggered and flooded the resort, causing $5,000 in damage. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call (509) 725-3501.

Pend Oreille County Newport

Local Police Chief Bill Clark says his department doesn’t have time for community oriented policing efforts. “It’s hard to have an officer out on foot or on the bike and respond to emergency situations,” Clark recently told the City Council. Mayor Dee Opp says she, and some of the council, are unhappy with the direction of the Police Department. They want more prevention and positive presence on the streets.

Spokane County Cheney

Cheney’s Ron Hess was named one of three most valuable commuters in a recognition program designed to promote alternative methods of getting to work. Hess walks a mile to work and back at Eastern Washington University each day. Also recognized were Donna Lee Lenz, who car pools to work at Zak Designs Inc., in Airway Heights, and Joan Jensen, who rides a bus to Goodwill Industries in Spokane.

Stevens County Colville

Some girls kiss a frog and find a prince. That’s exactly what Barb Lathrop did recently. Her beau, Randy Anderson, donned a frog prince costume to pop the question to his beloved. Armed with roses and sporting a large crown, he went down on bended knee. Lathrop could only croak her “yes” through the smiles and surprise. The two have not set a date, though a fairy-tale wedding is expected.
