Muriel Luce Moscow, Idaho
Memorial service for Muriel Morton Luce, 84, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Shorts Funeral Chapel in Moscow. Private burial will be held at a later date at Elwood Cemetery, near Kendrick, Idaho.
Mrs. Luce, who was born on Texas Ridge near Kendrick, died Friday.
She graduated from Deary (Idaho) High School and attended Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Spokane.
In 1935 she married David Morton. They owned and operated the Troy (Idaho) Telephone Company for 25 years. Her husband died in 1971.
In 1974 Mrs. Luce married H. Clyde Luce. They lived in Moscow and spent winters in California. He died in 1999.
Mrs. Luce also was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Tami Arnot of Troy and Becky Hogan of Lewiston; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Henry Loring Hayden Lake, Idaho
Visitation for Henry David Loring, 84, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Yates Funeral Home in Hayden, Idaho. Service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A reception will follow at the Yates Hayden Gathering Center.
Mr. Loring, who was born in Omaha, Neb., died Saturday. He grew up and graduated from a high school in Omaha.
Mr. Loring worked with the Omaha Fire Department for four years and also worked for Atwell, Vogel and Sterling, and other national safety inspection and insurance companies. In 1948 he went to work for Union Pacific. He retired as a senior claims agent after 33 years.
He married Helen Hufnagel in 1976 in Wilbur, Wash. They moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1980.
Mr. Loring was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the El Katif Shrine, the Spokane Police Guild, the International Footprinters, Grand Island Ashler No. 33 Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite of Coeur d’Alene and Spokane.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Dorothy Rasgorshek of Omaha and Judith Timm of Fort Worth, Texas; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Coeur d’Alene, or to Shriners Hospital for Children in Spokane.
Marion Parnell Spokane
No service will be held for Marion Lucile Parnell, 77, at her request. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 57-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Parnell died Thursday. She was born in St. Maries.
She and her husband, Chet, owned and operated Chet’s Food for 20 years.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Denise Fanazick of Spokane; two sisters, Ardys Huges of St. Maries and Mildred Miller of La Mesa, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Barbara Higginson Coeur d’Alene
Funeral Mass for Barbara A. Higginson, 64, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery, Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Higginson, who was born and raised in Los Angeles, died Wednesday.
She worked for the Automotive Club in L.A. for 31 years, most recently as a sales representative.
In 1983 she married David Higginson. They moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1995 from Burbank, Calif.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Georgiann Dioria of Whittier, Calif.; a brother, Donald Adams of California; one grandson and three great-grandchildren.
James Shadle Spirit Lake, Idaho
Memorial service for James A. “Jim’ Shadle, 79, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Spirit Lake Presbyterian Church. Yates Funeral Home Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Shadle, who was born in Pennsylvania, died Wednesday.
He served in the Army during World War II and then graduated from Pasadena (Calif.) Community College. He worked as a plumber in the Los Angeles area for 35 years. Mr. Shadle then lived in Las Vegas for several years before settling in Blanchard, Idaho in 1983.
In 1987 he married Lois Baden. They moved to Spirit Lake in 1989 and later moved to Cataldo, Idaho. They returned to Spirit Lake in 1999.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Peggy Delroy and Susan Serano, both of California; three stepsons, Bob and Andy Street, both of Spirit Lake, and Willie Street of Oregon; a stepdaughter, Christy Fulton of Smelterville, Idaho; a sister, Catherine Dunlap of Ohio; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pierce Watkins Spokane
Private service will be held for Pierce Kenneth Watkins, 85. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Decatur, Ill., Mr. Watkins died Wednesday.
He was a 54-year Spokane resident.
Mr. Watkins served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He served in England, North Africa, Sicily and Italy.
In 1948 he began working for Washington Water Power. He retired in 1980 as a design draftsman.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ethel; a son, Jerry Watkins of Spokane; a sister, Erna Murray; a brother, Ralph Watkins; and a granddaughter.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Institute of Spokane.
Jacqueline `Poppy’ Fehrnstrom Coeur d’Alene
Memorial service for Jacqueline R. “Poppy” Fehrnstrom, 85, will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene.
Born in Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Fehrnstrom died Tuesday.
She grew up in Salt Lake City. As a teenager she had her own radio show.
She was discovered by a Hollywood talent agent and was signed to a contract at MGM studios. She became one of the Goldwyn Girls during the 1930s and early 1940s.
She worked as a performer in various movies, including “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” “Going Down to Rio,” and most of the Bing Crosby/Bob Hope road movies.
Mrs. Fehrnstrom then became a homemaker until she returned to acting in a variety of television shows.
She moved to the Coeur d’Alene area in 1974 with her husband, Jack Crosby. He preceded her in death.
She later married Lake Coeur d’Alene cruise captain Victor Fehrnstrom, and was a 26-year North Idaho resident. Mrs. Fehrnstrom had served as a river cruise hostess aboard The Coeur d’Alene for many years.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Dennis Crosby Sr. of Chicago; a stepdaughter, Vicki Montzingo of Seattle; a stepson, Tod Fehrnstrom of Coeur d’Alene; two sisters, Florence Wylie and Gladys Johnston, both of California; and nine grandchildren.
Helen Nordby Spokane
Memorial service for Helen Margaret Nordby, a retired Spokane teacher, will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Riverview Retirement Center. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Nordby, who was born in southern Minnesota, died Saturday. She was 94.
She graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. She completed graduate work at Gonzaga University, Eastern Washington State College and Holy Names College.
Mrs. Nordby taught for five years in Minnesota, one year in Montana and 32 years in Washington.
In 1947 she was hired to set up the library program for Mead High School. She was the high school librarian for 25 years. She also taught English, Latin, German, math and science. She retired in 1971.
She was a member of the Spokane, Washington and National Retired Teachers associations and the American Association of University Women. She also was a member of Salem Lutheran Church.
Her husband, Lyman, preceded her in death Survivors include a son, David Norby; a daughter, Kay Hopkins; a brother, Theodore Lund; a sister, Otylia Mozer; and a grandson.
Phyllis Gosline Pinehurst, Idaho
Memorial service for Phyllis Ruth Gosline, 75, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at United Church of Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service and Crematory in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Gosline, who was born in Little Falls, Minn., died Friday.
She received a registered nurse license from Deaconess School of Nursing in Spokane, and worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital and in a private practice in Minnesota.
Mrs. Gosline was an assistant state director of the Good Sam Club and a member of the United Church of Kellogg’s Plymouth Circle.
In 1952 She married Terance Gosline in Grand Rapids, Minn.
She and her family moved to the Northwest in 1957 and eventually settled in Pinehurst.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Tom Gosline, and a daughter, Jan Higbee, both of Pinehurst; three brothers, Jim Hanson of Duluth, Minn., Bill Hanson of Ocala, Fla., and George Hanson of Pearblossom, Calif.; and five grandchildren, Terry and Matt Gosline, and Barney, Jake and Charlie Higbee.
Grace McRoberts Spokane
Graveside service for Grace M. McRoberts, 97, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Mondovi (Wash.) Cemetery. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Mondovi, Mrs. McRoberts died Thursday. She was an 88-year Spokane resident.
During World War II she worked at Galena Air Depot.
Mrs. McRoberts was a homemaker, a member of North Hill Christian Church and the Women’s Christian Temperance Union.
Her husband, James, died in 1971.
Survivors include three sons, Terry McRoberts of Spokane, Del McRoberts of Lubbock, Texas, and Hugh McRoberts of Alexandria, Va.; 12 grandchildren and 16 greatgrandchildren.
Victor Doerrheim Spokane
Memorial service for Victor Doerrheim, 56, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Community Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Doerrheim, who was born in Mott, N.D., died Aug. 15.
He was a 34-year Spokane resident and worked in the Spokane County Department of Emergency Services.
Mr. Doerrheim served as a scout master for the Boy Scout Pack 226.
He was a member of the Amateur Radio Emergency Services, the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service and the Spokane Neighborhood Emergency Action Program.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Grace; and a son, Johnathan Doerrheim of Everett, Wash.
