Erma Morkeski Spokane

Service for Erma Morkeski, 88, will be at 10 a.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Morkeski died Friday.

She was a receptionist at the Eagles Lodge, and a member of Holy Names Academy and the Eagles Auxiliary Team.

Her first husband, Robert Frank, died in 1951.

Her second husband, Frank Osiar, died in 1959.

Her third husband, Edward Morkeski, died in 1999.

Survivors include a son, James Frank of Spokane; a daughter, Suzanne Hogue of Spokane; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Kathryn Bernard Spokane

Service for Kathryn Bernard, a retired Spokane teacher, will be at 10 a.m. today at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Oakesdale (Wash.) Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Bernard, who was born in Oakesdale, died Saturday. She was 95.

She received a teaching degree from Cheney Normal School and later received a life teaching certificate and a bachelor’s degree in education.

She taught in Whitman, Okanogan and Spokane counties for 46 years. She retired from the West Valley School District after 28 years.

Miss Bernard was named Teacher of the Year and was presented with the Golden Acorn Award from the National Parent/Teachers Association.

She volunteered for 15 years with the Reach to Recovery Program and the American Cancer Society, and for 20 years at Valley Medical Center. She sang in the choir at The Spokane Valley United Methodist Church for 40 years.

She is survived by 10 nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Morning Star Boys Ranch.

Paul Froehlich Greenacres

Visitation for Paul Froehlich, 94, will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 9 a.m. Thursday at St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Froehlich, who died Sunday, was born in Dickinson, N.D. He was a 59-year Spokane resident.

He was a painting contractor and retired 15 years ago.

His wife preceded him in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Dinius of Spokane; several sisters and brothers; and one granddaughter.

Clarice Milkowski Spokane

Memorial service for Clarice L. Milkowski, 72, was Aug. 13.

Born in Beach, N.D., Mrs. Milkowski died August 5.

She worked for Boeing in Seattle for 27 years and retired in 1989. She moved to Spokane after she retired.

Survivors include two sons, Frank and Pete Milkowski; a daughter, Joanne Williams; a brother, Earl Playle; and four grandchildren.

Krista Baker Spokane

Visitation for Krista Lynn Baker, 20, will be from 8 a.m. to noon today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Lutheran Church.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Miss Baker died Saturday from cystic fibrosis.

She graduated in 1998 from Ferris High School, and was nominated for a Chase Youth Award her senior year for personal valor. She attended two years of college at Spokane Falls Community College and Eastern Washington University.

Survivors include her parents, John and Ruthell Baker of Spokane; two sisters, Nicole and Amanda Baker, both of Spokane; and her grandmother, Elva of E. Wenatchee, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Wishing Star Foundation.

Michael `Marc’ Moore Spokane

Memorial service for Michael M. “Marc” Moore, 38, will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the family home, 5515 S. Crestline. Private burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens. The Neptune Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Moore, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Saturday..

He graduated from Ferris High School and was a salesman for Pro View Golf Industries.

Survivors include a daughter, Amanda Moore of Colville; his mother, Cebe Moore of Spokane; and a brother, Eric Moore of Deer Park.

Dorothy Thompson Spokane

Graveside inurnment for Dorothy Ramona Thompson, 87, was Monday at Newport (Wash.) Cemetery. Mrs. Thompson, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Aug. 16.

She graduated in 1931 from North Central High School.

In 1934 she married Arthur Thompson. They lived in Elk for more than 50 years.

Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker and moved to Spokane in 1987.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Rodewald of Marysville, Wash.; eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Spokane.

Mabel Peterson Chattaroy

Graveside service for Mabel Isabelle Peterson, 95, was Tuesday at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Born in Culbertson, Mont., Mrs. Peterson died Monday.

She was a 36-year Chattaroy resident and a homemaker.

Her husband of 54 years, Ervin, preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Alice Nolte of Post Falls and Helen Mildes of Chattaroy; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Clarence `Whitey’ Freeman Liberty Lake

Memorial service for Clarence E. “Whitey” Freeman, 69, is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at Liberty Lake Community Church. The Neptune Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Spokane, Mr. Freeman died Sunday.

He graduated in 1949 from Walla Walla High School and later attended Eastern Washington University.

Mr. Freeman served in the Army Corps of Engineers from 1951 to 1952. He married Lorna Bennett in 1952.

After serving in the Korean War he returned to Spokane and graduated in 1955 from Kinman Business School with a master’s of accounting degree. He was in charge of the accounting departments for Columbia Lighting and Metropolitan Mortgage, and retired from Bank of America in 1993.

Mr. Freeman was a 33-year member of Liberty Lake Community Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dave Freeman of Spokane and Tim Freeman of Newman Lake; and one grandson.

Rebecca Olson Spokane

Visitation for Rebecca Lynn Olson will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home. Memorial Mass will follow at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church.

Miss Olson, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday in an automobile accident. She was 23.

She was a graduate of University High School and Spokane Community College. She was a medical secretary for Dr. Carol Hathaway.

Survivors include her parents, Robert and Teresa Olson, of Spokane; a sister, Wendy Roberge, and a brother, John Olson, both of Spokane; her grandmother, Bernice Olson of Spokane; and grandfather, Laverne Bullock of Boise.

Alma (Conrad) Glover Colville, Wash.

No service will be held for Alma H. (Conrad) Byrd Glover, 82. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville is in charge of arrangements.

A 70-year Colville resident, Mrs. Glover died Saturday. She was born in Trout Creek, Ontario.

Her family moved to Spokane in 1924, and to California in 1927. They moved to the Bossburg area near Marcus, Wash., in 1931.

In 1935 she married Howard Byrd. They lived on the Conrad family farm near Bossburg.

She worked for nine years as assistant postmaster for the Evans (Wash.) Post Office. She had also worked at Pinewood Terrace Nursing Home in Colville.

Her husband died in 1980.

In 1982 she married George Glover.

Mrs. Glover was a member of the Colville Eagles Auxiliary.

Her second husband died in 1999.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth Byrd of Colville; two sisters, Velma Raber of Colville and Cecelia Kollman of Pendleton, Ore.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Moore Spokane

Service for Dorothy A. Moore, 89, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Pines Cemetery Mausoleum. Burial will follow service. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Moore, who was born in Anaconda, Mont., died Sunday. She was a 70-year Spokane resident.

She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School, and in 1928 from Cheney Normal School.

Mrs. Moore taught in several Washington towns, including Oakesdale, Edwall, Newport, Asotin and Cusick. She later moved back to Spokane and was the librarian at East Valley High School until retiring in 1972.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma and Spokane Valley United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Wade, preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Roger Moore of Spokane and Winston Moore of South Haven, Mich.; two daughters, Carol Moore of Spokane and Jerry Moore of Valleyford, Wash.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Dorothea Stockton Spokane

Service for Dorothea M. Stockton, a lifetime Spokane resident, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel. Burial will follow the service. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stockton died Saturday. She was 89.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband of 48 years, Ralph, died in 1989.

Survivors include four daughters, Roseanne Bessermin of Spokane, Suzanne March of Nine Mile Falls, Maryanne Ruff of Colbert and Julieanne Lowe of Richland; a brother, Paul Mueller of Spokane; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

George Wells Hayden Lake, Idaho

Service for George C. Wells, 88, was Aug. 16 at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. Private inurnment will be at Pines Cemetery in Spokane.

Mr. Wells, who was born in Colon, Panama, died Aug. 12.

He attended school in Montclair, N.J., and preparatory school in Massachusetts. He graduated in 1933 from Yale University and in 1935 from Harvard Business School. He attended law school for a year.

Mrs. Wells worked for two years in the Air Reduction Co., N.Y., and then spent the next 35 years working in various plant and management capacities for the Union Carbide Corp. From 1958 to 1963 he served as president of Union Carbides’ former international division, and in 1964 became the general vice-president of the corporation.

In 1968 he married Zazilia Grabner. He retired in 1974. He and his wife lived in Nevada for five years and in 1979 they moved to Hayden Lake.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Bradley Wells of San Francisco; a daughter, Sarah Robertson of Connecticut; a stepson, Stuart, of Spokane; a stepdaughter, Virginia of South Australia; a brother, Thomas Wells of Montclair, N.J.; and three granddaughters.
