Prep Jamborees Open School Season

Two major jamborees will help North Idaho’s volleyball and football teams christen the 2000-2001 athletic school year this week.

Both jamborees will serve as fund raisers for the state activities association’s Youth Endowment for Activities (YEA) fund. YEA was established to help defray the cost of travel to state activities.

Six Panhandle volleyball teams will gather at Lakeland High School for their jamboree on Thursday. Coeur d’Alene, Lake City, Post Falls, Sandpoint and St. Maries will join Lakeland.

Matches will begin at 6 p.m. No activities passes will be honored. Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for senior citizens and students.

The football jamboree will be held at Coeur d’Alene’s Viking Field on Friday. Joining CdA will be LC, Post Falls, Moscow, Lakeland and Sandpoint.

Three simulated scrimmages will be played at the same time on each of two fields, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Teams will not be matched with their season-opening opponents.

Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for students and senior citizens.

Football openers

Four North Idaho teams will get the jump on the rest of the area Friday in a pair of season-opening games.

Priest River will visit Wallace and Lakeside will go to Potlatch for nonleague games. Both contests will kick off at 7 p.m.
