Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the nation’s biggest retailer, plans to start selling refrigerators, ranges and other major home appliances at about a dozen stores by the end of the year in a test with appliance maker General Electric Co. Most of the sites are still undetermined.

Shares of doughnut maker Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corp. jumped Thursday after the company reported fiscal second-quarter earnings that topped Wall Street projections and raised its full-year profit expectations by about 18 percent. Shares rose $14.94 to close at $78.31.

Verizon Wireless Inc. filed with federal regulators on Thursday to sell up to $5 billion worth of stock in an initial public offering.

Shares of Maytag Corp. climbed on reports that the maker of dishwashers, washing machines and refrigerators is in talks to be acquired by Sweden’s AB Electrolux. Shares of Maytag jumped $3.69 to close at $41.00 on the New York Stock Exchange. Electrolux’s American depositary were unchanged at $27.50.
