Spotlight: Bits And Bitting

Alixe Etherington, a world- renowned expert on bits and bitting of horses, will speak Monday at a three-hour seminar at 6:30 p.m.

The seminar, presented by the Inland Northwest Dressage Association, is open to the public. It will be held at the SIRTI Center, 665 N. Riverpoint Blvd. Tickets purchased in advance are $15 at local tack and feed stores and $20 at the door.

Topics to be covered will include: What is the bit, what does it do for horse riders, points of control, schools of riding and the five families of bitting.

Etherington is the president of John Dewsbury Bit Manufacturers, the oldest bit-making company in England. She is a distinguished rider, judge, bit designer and rider.
