Pickup Driver Dies In Benewah Crash

From Staff

A Reardan, Wash., man was killed and his passenger injured after his vehicle hit a rock and flipped over Tuesday afternoon in Benewah County, according to Idaho State Police reports.

Jowel Boyce Portrey, 50, was traveling east on St. Joe River Road about 5:30 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a left turn, police said. Portrey’s 1981 GMC pickup went off the roadway and then flipped.

Portrey was thrown from his truck into a tree. His passenger, Raylen Baird, 22, was thrown onto the floorboard.

Neither Portrey nor Baird was wearing a seatbelt, police said. Alcohol is suspected as a factor, police said.
