Indian Canyon pro Gary Lindeblad fell eight shots short of earning a spot on the Senior PGA Tour Friday at Lake Buena Vista, Fla., where Bob Gilder rolled to a seven-stroke victory in the 72-hole qualifying tournament.

Lindeblad had an erratic final round before finishing with an even-par 72. His total of 287 was 1 under for the tournament.

Gilder, a six-time winner on the PGA Tour who turns 50 on Dec. 31, had a 19-under total of 198 on the Eagles Pines course. He earned $42,000.

The low 16 finishers in the 72-hole event received 2001 tour cards, with the top eight gaining full exemptions.

Players who finished at 279 or better received tour cards.

As he did Thursday, Lindeblad struggled on the front nine, taking bogeys on the third and sixth hole to make the turn 2 over. He gained one stroke with a birdie at No. 11, but doublebogeyed the par-5 14th.

The Spokane golfer then fought his way back to par by collecting birdies on each of the last three holes, all par-4s.

Oregon native Pat Fitzsimons, a frequent entrant in Spokane-area tournaments, fell from contention on the final 18 holes. The San Diego resident skidded to 74 and finished at 282.

Hockey

Greg Hawryluk scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lead Castlegar to a 3-2 Kootenay International Junior Hockey League win over the visiting Spokane Braves.

Matt Sumney scored with 2 minutes left in the third period to send the game to overtime. Spokane (13-14-2-1) played without four players, including league leading scorer Chase Decker, who were suspended for fighting.
