Pirates Win Ehlo’S First

The wait is over.

Former Washington State University star and NBA player Craig Ehlo finally got his first win as a coach.

The Rogers Pirates put together strong first and third quarters en route to a 57-47 win over University Friday night, breaking a 25-game losing streak in Greater Spokane League boys basketball.

Ehlo saw his team take the first step forward after going 0-20 in his first season and starting this one 0-2. The Pirates led 13-7 after one quarter and built the lead to 16 entering the fourth quarter.

Brett Weisner had a three-point play and a 3-pointer down the stretch as the Highlanders rallied to edge the visiting Knights.

Weisner finished with a career-high 29 points, hitting five of Shadle’s nine 3-pointers. The Highlanders were down by six entering the fourth quarter as Carl-Erick Pflanz and Chad Mathison combined for 29 points for EV.

At LC, Kyle Vessey had 13 of his 14 points in the second half as the Wildcats pulled away from the Tigers.

Jordan Bursch and Casey Franklin had 16 points apiece for Mt. Spokane, which trailed by one at halftime.

Jacob Domit had 12 of his 16 points in the first quarter when LC surged to a 19-10 lead.

Nick Velis hit five free throws down the stretch to score a career-high 14 points as the Bullpups held off the visiting Indians.

NC rallied from 12 down to take the lead in the fourth quarter but once the Indians fell behind again, they were forced to foul as the Pups came through.
