Police Seek Input On Grant’S Use
The Spokane Police Department wants public comment on how to use the $342,000 federal grant it will get over the next two years.
The Spokane City Council is having a public hearing tonight during its regular meeting on the U.S. Department of Justice block grant.
As currently planned, about $277,000 of the cash will go toward equipment and computer technology to upgrade the department’s crime programs.
About $50,000 of it will go to the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office for juvenile prosecution efforts and the remaining $15,000 will pay for an accountant to manage the grant and several other federal awards.
The department said it can’t use the money to hire new personnel because it has a two-year time limit.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the lower level of City Hall.
