Duke Stays On Top

Duke was No. 1 for the third straight week and Michigan State was again second, but there were plenty of changes in the rest of the men’s basketball Top 25.

The Blue Devils (9-0) received 60 first-place votes and 1,716 points. Michigan State (7-0) was No. 1 on nine ballots with 1,653 points.

Stanford (6-0) moved up one place to No. 3, while Tennessee (8-0) jumped from sixth to fourth.

Illinois (7-2) moved from ninth to fifth after rallying from 21 points down to hand Seton Hall its first loss.

Wake Forest (7-0), which beat then-No. 3 Kansas 84-53 Tuesday, had the week’s biggest jump, going from 11th to No. 6.

Arizona, which dropped two places after losing at Connecticut, was seventh, followed in the Top Ten by Florida, Seton Hall and Kansas.

Reserve Field Williams hit three 3-pointers to spark a 20-point run that swept No. 17 Cincinnati to a 97-58 victory over Oakland (Mich.) in Cincinnati.

Severe winter weather in Madison, Wis., prompted officials to postpone a basketball game between No. 16 Wisconsin and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Three more decisive victories kept Connecticut a unanimous choice at No. 1 in the AP women’s basketball poll, which had Notre Dame and Iowa State reaching their highest ranking in history.

Connecticut (7-0) swept all 40 first-place votes and had 1,000 points. Tennessee (7-0) was No. 2 with 960 points. Notre Dame (8-0) climbed one spot to third, Georgia (7-2) was up one place to fourth and Iowa State (7-0) jumped two spots to fifth.
