Several Earn Scholarships From Ccs Foundation
Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation has awarded scholarships ranging in value from $500 to $2,500 to more than 40 Spokane residents for the 2000-2001 school year. They include:
Avista Returning Student Scholarship ($1,500): Holly Carnahan, Danielle Dance, Annette Dawson, Shelleen Haun and Tamra Smith, all of Spokane Falls Community College; and Bill Schafer, Spokane Community College.
Boeing Award ($1,500): Chris Haynes, SCC.
Dale Wilson Awards ($2,250): Sara Gottberg, Amanda Mahlke, Stephanie Purcell, Catherine Stoothoff and Andrew Tran, all of SFCC; and Destry Kelly, SCC.
L.M. Dickson Memorial Scholarship ($1,500): Sara Skaufel, SCC.
Kaiser Manufacturing and Technology Scholarships ($1,500): Pamela Pena and Nathaniel Ventress.
Kendall Family Awards ($1,500): Charlene Collins, Robin Esteph, Lorene Hodgson, James Jones, Todd Race, Lauri Roberts and Donna Trepanier, all of SCC.
L. Pence Scholarships ($1,000): Latisha Conto, Holly Nguyen and Yingvan Shao, all of SFCC.
Pepsi Cola Scholarship ($1,000): Marlene Nauroth, SFCC.
Collin J. Smith Memorial Scholarship ($500): Cassie Taylor, SFCC.
Sprint Scholarship ($1,600): Bradley Crupper, SFCC.
“Touch the Future” Academic Scholarship ($1,500): Jodel Frank, SFCC.
Melinda Jean Bandy, Spokane, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from Ackerley Communications Inc. in conjunction with the combined organizations of Washington Association of Independent Colleges and Universities and Independent Colleges of Washington.
Bandy is a senior at Whitworth College.
Exceptional artistic ability and a personal interest in diabetes produced 11 winning art entries, including one by Cynthia R. Lang, Spokane, in the American Diabetes Association Holiday Art Search. Selection was based on quality, creativity and sales potential. Each winner recieved $500.
The fourth annual ADA Holiday Art Search attracted 493 entries. Winning artwork will be featured on a greeting card in the 2000 ADA Gift of Hope catalog, with all proceeds going directly to diabetes research.
Elizabeth J. Querna received a bachelor of arts degree from Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H.
Querna is the daughter of Donald and Christine Querna, Spokane, and majored in government.
Betty Findley, Spokane, was awarded a U.S. Dressage Foundation/Dover Saddlery Adult Amateur Medal following her performance in July. She won the second-level competition during the Inland Northwest Dressage Show, riding her 21-year-old horse, Custom Blend.
Robin Orth, Charlestown, Mass., received a master’s of business administration from Western New England College in Springfield Mass.
Orth is the daughter of Bob and Linda Orth, Nine Mile Falls.
Paul D. Salcido, Spokane, received a bachelor of science degree in computer Science from Gonzaga University.
Salcido is the son of David and Tamara Salcido.
Chrystal Phillips, Deer Park; Eric Hill, Moses Lake; Samuel Crossett, Oaksdale, Wash.; and Angela Cross and Stephanie Prather, both of Spokane, each received various scholarships from the Washington State University College of Sciences for the 2000-2001 school year.
Phillips received a $2,000 science opportunity scholarship. She is the daughter of Dave and Toni Phillips and a 2000 graduate of Deer Park High School.
Hill received three scholarships: a $2,000 College of Sciences scholar award, a $1,000 honorable mention president’s scholarship and a $300 microbiology alumni scholarship. He is the son of William and Carol Hill and is a 1998 graduate of Moses Lake High School.
Cossett received a renewable $1,500 science opportunity scholarship as well as a university achievement award and a university scholar-in-residence award. He is the son of Mike and Debbie Crossett and is a 2000 graduate of Oaksdale High School.
Cross received a $1,000 College of Sciences science opportunity scholarship, renewable a second year for $2,000. She is the daughter of John and Susan Cross and is a 2000 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School.
Prather received a $2,000 science opportunity scholarship. She is the daughter of Laurie Prather, Spokane and John Prather, Columbia Falls, Mont., and is a 2000 graduate of Mead High School.
Air Force Airmen Samuel R. Fain and Justin N. Cox, both 1998 graduates of Rogers High School, have graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.
Fain is the son of Pamela Thompson, Spokane, and Samuel Fain, Bothell, Wash.
Cox is the son of Susan Duval and Norman Cox, both of Spokane.
Lori Lynne Hardacker, Medical Lake, received a bachelor of science degree in the physician assistant military program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Neb.
