Reardan Hangs On For Win

Reardan nearly waited too long.
The Indians almost blew a 25-point lead on Thursday, but held on to edge Columbia 58-55 in an opener of the Reardan Christmas Tournament.
Reardan took the 25-point lead into the final quarter, but Columbia’s Kris Benson scored 14 of his 23 points to guide a wild rally.
Reardan put its starters back in with 2 minutes left, then held on after the Lions pulled within one point with a minute left.
Reardan will play Cusick at 7:30 tonight for the title. Columbia will meet Riverside at 4:30 in the consolation.

Cusick snapped a six-game losing streak. Nathan Martin hit two 3-pointers to help Riverside to a first-quarter lead.

Tanner Townsend scored 24 in the first half, and the Scotties hit 5 of 6 free throws in the final minute to hold off the Hawks.
Lakeland led 67-66 with 1:06 left, but Jake DePell had two late steals to fuel Freeman’s comeback.
Townsend finished 14 of 17 from the line and combined with Jeff Hyndman for 16 rebounds.
Freeman will play Okanogan at 7:30 tonight for the title. Lakeland and Bonners Ferry will play at 4 in the consolation.

Zack Axel hit 3 of 4 free throws in overtime and Shawn Epler totaled six steals to lead the Stags over the Fishermen.
Ilwaco stole an inbounds pass with 16 seconds left in regulation, but missed a field-goal attempt. The Stags called timeout with 4 seconds left, then missed a shot at the buzzer.
The Stags overcame the absence of Adam Swinyard (24.3 points per game), who made the trip but is recovering from an injury to his kneecap.
The tourney drew several teams that played at last year’s State 2A Tournament. Deer Park will meet Omak at 6 tonight.
