Break For Some Drivers

From Staff

Rep. Jeff Alltus wants to wipe clean felony records for driving without privileges, or at least knock them down to misdemeanors.

In 1998, the Legislature changed third-time driving without privileges from a felony to a misdemeanor. The new law didn’t really help those who already had committed the crime, as they still had a felony on their record. Alltus hopes to change that with his bill that would retroactively erase the felony and replace it with a misdemeanor on a person’s record.

The committee agreed unanimously to review the bill. A hearing will be scheduled in the coming weeks.
