Eagles Grounded By Weber State

Eastern Washington was held to eight field goals in each half Wednesday night and that spelled disaster against Weber State, resulting in a 79-49 women’s basketball loss at Odgen, Utah.

Shelley Olson led the Wildcats with 24 points and Amber Whiting added 16.

Julie Moore paced the Eagles in the Big Sky Conference game with 16 points, her third straight game in double figures.

The Eagles (7-12, 3-6 Big Sky) took an 11-7 lead with 10:13 left in the first half, but Weber State (8-11, 6-3) outscored them 19-9 for the remainder of the half to take a 26-20 halftime advantage.

The Eagles managed to cut the lead to 36-31 with 14:17 left in the secoond half but the Wildcats answered with an 8-0 run in the next 2 minutes to take a 44-31 lead. Eastern never got closer than 12 points the rest of the game.

CCS 89, Columbia Basin 63

Riverside High graduate Abby Wood had a career-best 23 points, 12 rebounds and three assists as the Sasquatch continued to roll, this time over Columbia Basin in Pasco.

The win improved CCS to 21-2, 7-1 in the NWAACC Eastern Division to set up Saturday’s pivotal game at Wenatchee, also 7-1, for sole possession of first place.

The Hawks dropped to 8-13, 2-5.

The Sasquatch began to pull away the last 10 minutes of the first half and took a commanding 45-21 lead into the half.

Kim Cole led CBC with 17 points. Karie Pruett had 10 points for CCS. Teammates Amy George and Bernice Stime both scored nine.
