All Hands Pitch In As Eagles Take Title

(From Replay, February 8, 2000): Garfield-Palouse clinched the Whitman County League boys basketball championship by defeating St. John-Endicott 52-45. The headline in Monday’s edition was wrong.

Garfield-Palouse clinched the Whitman County League title on Saturday night with plenty of people to thank.

Jeremy Kimble scored 22 points and the fourth-ranked Vikings made 9 of 13 free throws in the fourth quarter during a 52-45 win over St. John-Endicott at St. John.

Kellen Smick and Adam Elder had six rebounds apiece for the Vikings. Smick hit 4 of 7 from the floor, and Elder joined Vikings reserve JoJo Wride with two 3-pointers apiece.

Josh Hames had 11 rebounds and Karl Scheuerman seven assists for St. John-Endicott. The Eagles shot no free throws in the second half, when Gar-Pal was 11 of 15.

At LaCrosse, Shane Hammond scored eight points in the second overtime, helped by a pair of three-point plays, and the Tigercats kept the Wildcats from having their first winning league record in 17 years.

L-W’s Jake Schneider hit a 3-pointer with less than 10 seconds left in regulation. Schneider also scored all eight Tigercats points in the first OT. Colton’s Blake Wolf scored 27, hitting 11 of 26 from the field.

A.J. Nelson totaled 22 points and 14 rebounds, and the Wildcats defeated the Falcons at Harrington to stay in a second-place tie with Ritzville.

The Wildcats’ Gregg Arden and Bryce Morrison combined for 13 assists. Travis McPeak of the Falcons scored 22, but Colin Floyd (20.7 ppg) was held to four.

Josh Whitman hit a 3-pointer in the second overtime and the visiting Broncos finished 21 of 30 from the line to edge the Tigers in three overtime periods and stayed tied with Wilbur-Creston.

Odessa’s Cam Smith had two 3-pointers in the third OT, but the Broncos took advantage of turnovers to pull ahead. Odessa’s Michael Jeske had 15 rebounds.

The visiting Indians roared back with a 22-5 fourth quarter to defeat the Gorillas.

Davenport’s Alan Curtis had 16 rebounds and a 3-pointer with 8 seconds left to cut Reardan’s lead to two. Reardan’s Keith Anderson (12 ppg) returned after missing seven games for an unspecified reason.
