Casimir Leads Nwc

DeMecia Casimir was at her best Tuesday night, as was most of the Panorama League South Division.

Casimir scored a season-high 23 points, including two 3-pointers, to guide NWC to a 53-28 win at Wellpinit in one of four league tournament openers.

The South defeated the North in three of four openers. NWC was the No. 3 seed from the South, Wellpinit the No. 2 from the North.

The tournament continues Friday night. Winner-to-district games will have NWC at South No. 1 St. George’s, and South No. 2 Selkirk at North No. 1 Republic. Inchelium plays at Wellpinit and Springdale at Columbia in loser-out games.

Vanessa Parvey scored 20 of her 26 after halftime, including a three-point play to force overtime, and the visiting Eagles edged the Blackhawks.

Chelsea Thomas hit a 3-pointer in OT for WV, and Parvey and Amanda Holstrom added four free throws apiece. Cheney’s Lani McLauchlin made a career-high six 3-pointers, all in the second half, and fueled a 13-0 run.

The teams will meet again Feb. 18 in a District 7 3A tournament opener at Mt. Spokane High. WV is 2-0 this year against the Blackhawks.
