Swing Music With Some Heart
It’s not quite Valentine’s Day, but you can get a jump on things by asking your Valentine to dance to the tunes of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Les Brown and Duke Ellington.
The Spokane Jazz Orchestra will perform dozens of authentic big band, swing-era hits during its four-hour “Swing with your Valentine” dance Saturday at 8 p.m. at the downtown Masonic Temple.
The 18-piece jazz orchestra will be joined on stage by the popular male vocal quartet Top Flite, performing swing-era hits such as “I’ve Got a Girl From Kalamazoo” and “Sentimental Journey.”
The doors open at 7 p.m. and refreshments will be available.
Tickets to the Swing With Your Valentine dance are $15 in advance, $18 at the door, and are available through G&B Select-A-Seat.
If you buy tickets to the dance, make sure you show up at the right place. A similarly named Valentine Swing Fling is being held down the street at the Ridpath Hotel.
Spirits of Rhythm will perform for the 8 p.m. dance at the Ridpath Empire Ballroom, sponsored by the Spokane Folklore Society and the Spokane Swing Dance Club. Lessons will be given at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15, $10 for Folklore Society and Swing Dance Club members.
