Towns May Apply For Forest Service Aid
The U.S. Forest Service is soliciting applications for Rural Community Assistance grants, which are designated for communities that historically have relied on natural resource industries.
The funds are available from the Food, Agriculture, Conservation and Trade Act of 1990.
The deadline to apply for the grants is March 31. Incorporated communities, tribes, counties, municipalities and unincorporated areas that are dependent on forests and natural resources are eligible for the grants.
The proposals must have a broad community benefit and lead to economic, social or environmental improvements, according to Teresa Asleson, a grant coordinator for the Idaho Panhandle National Forests.
