Car Hits Pedestrians, Two Other Vehicles

From Staff Reports

A Coeur d’Alene man faces three charges of aggravated battery and one charge of leaving the scene of an accident Thursday night.

David G. McKenzie, 35, was arrested after witnesses said his car struck two vehicles and struck two other men, causing minor injuries.

The incident, according to witnesses, started at about 10:20 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of Pub 95 on U.S. Highway 95 north of town. It ended with McKenzie’s arrest at the Dakota Avenue intersection of Ramsey Road.

After an altercation in the parking lot, two men told police that the driver of a gray El Camino hit them with his car and then struck a gray 1998 Dodge Aries car as the El Camino left the parking lot.

Sometime later, a third man was driving his white Dodge pickup westbound on Hayden Avenue when he passed an El Camino flashing its emergency signals.

The El Camino then accelerated and rammed the Dodge’s rear bumper, according to the report.

The driver of the Dodge called 911 on his cell phone and then saw the El Camino driving through the pump islands of a nearby Texaco station.

After calling police, the driver tried to hide his pickup behind a sign, but the El Camino driver attempted to ram the pickup before turning east on Ramsey Road, according to the report.

Moments later an Idaho State Police trooper stopped the El Camino on Ramsey Road and arrested McKenzie.
