Great Northern League

The Great Northern League girls regular season ended Friday night, but Pullman, Lakeside and Riverside aren’t ready to let it go.

Pullman hit four 3-pointers on the way to a 59-42 win at Chewelah that helped create a three-way tie for first place with Lakeside and Riverside.

The top two teams receive opening-round byes to the GNL District 7 2A Tournament at Mt. Spokane High, so playoffs are necessary to sort out the trio.

Lakeside will play Pullman at 6 p.m. Monday at Mead High for the No. 1 seed. That loser will play Riverside at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Mead for the second and third seeds.

The No. 3 will open district Friday against No. 6 Deer Park in a loser-out game. No. 4 Newport (8-12) will play No. 5 Chewelah in another Friday loser-out.

Jamie Rizzuto hit 7 of 11 from the field, 4 of 7 on 3-pointers, and added five steals to lead the Rams over the visiting Cardinals.

Kelicia Shorts added six rebounds and Kristin Arras five assists for Riverside.

Reserve Jenna Giampietri came off the bench for had 10 steals and was 6 for 12 from the floor, and the fourth-ranked Eagles defeated the visiting Stags at Nine Mile Falls.

At Nine Mile Falls, Jordan Bjork and Pat Day combined for 46 points and 21 rebounds, leading the Eagles’ upset of the ninth-ranked Stags and creating a three-way tie for second place.

Lakeside shot 25 of 45 from the floor, while DP hit 16 of 21 from the line. The Stags’ Adam Swinyard scored 27.

DP defeated Lakeside 60-47 in their first matchup.

DP dropped into a second-place tie with Pullman and Medical Lake. DP will play Pullman at 8 p.m. Monday at Mead, with the loser advancing to district as No. 4. Monday’s winner will play Medical Lake at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mead for the second and third district seeds.

Lakeside is the No. 5 seed and will open Friday vs. the No. 4.

Miky Tupek scored 11 in the first quarter, with three 3-pointers, and the league-champion Cougars defeated the visiting Greyhounds, the 1999 champs.

Justin Shamion scored 18 and Cory Boone had seven rebounds for Chewelah.

Bob Jackson hit 6 of 10 field goals, including two 3-pointers, and the visiting Cardinals defeated the Rams to tie for second place.

Medical Lake shot 16 of 32 from the field in the first half and finished with 20 offensive rebounds.

Riverside is the sixth seed to district and will open Friday vs. the No. 3.
