New Eastern Washington coach Wade Benson has signed four high school seniors and a junior college transfer to letters of intent.

Newest Eagles are Courtney Bush, a 6-foot-1 setter from Gresham, Ore.; Casey Evans, a 6-foot right-side hitter/setter from Eugene, Ore.; Lindsay Page, a 6-2 middle blocker from Vernon, British Columbia; Jessica Wright, a 5-6 setter from Fountain Valley, Calif.; and Robyn Sonju-Felder, a 5-10 outside hitter from Mesa, Ariz., via Ricks Junior College.

Bush and Evans are the Oregon 4A and 3A players of the year, respectively. Bush, also the 1999 Gatorade Circle of Champions player of the year for Oregon, helped Barlow High place first, third, sixth and fourth at state in her four seasons. Evans’ school, Marist, won back-to-back state titles.

Wright’s team won three league titles and she was twice selected to All-California Interscholastic Federation teams.

Page has been a member of Team BC since 1998. The team was the silver medalist in the 1999 Canadian National Team Cup Challenge and the bronze medalist at the Western Canadian Summer Games.

Sonju-Felder will be joined by her husband, Chris, who will join the EWU football team. She was a JC All-American honorable mention.

Benson also will welcome Jamie Carmichael, a 5-10 utility player who was a high school teammate of Evans.

Devon Herron of Ferris has signed to play at Metropolitan State College of Denver.

Herron, a 5-foot-10 setter, was a first-team All-Greater Spokane League player for the league-champion Saxons and has been picked for the All-State Series.

Amy Kauppila of Lewis and Clark, a 5-10 outside hitter, has signed a grant-in-aid to attend the University of Rhode Island.

Kauppila, a three-year starter, was an All-GSL selection and has been picked for the All-State Series. She is a member of the National Honor Society.

Sarah Kozlowski of Hayden Lake, who helped lead Coeur d’Alene High School to fourth place in the Idaho A-1 state championships, has signed a letter of intent to play at Idaho State.

The 5-10 left-handed setter/right-side hitter was an all-conference selection and a three-year member of the CdA honor roll.
