Whitman County Teams Dominate District Play
Southeast B basketball
The Southeast District 9 B girls basketball tournament has become an exclusive Whitman County League party.
St. John-Endicott defeated DeSales 50-35 and Asotin edged Liberty Christian 52-50 during Wednesday’s loser-out games at Washington State University.
The tournament, which started with four teams from the Whitman County League and four from the Blue Mountain League, is down to four Whitman County teams.
SJE will play Asotin at 1 p.m. Friday at WSU in another loser-out game. The winner will play Saturday afternoon for a berth to the State B Tournament.
Friday’s championship game, scheduled for 8 p.m., is between LaCrosse-Washtucna (18-6) and Garfield-Palouse (20-2). The winner advances to state and the loser will play the SJE-Asotin winner for the No. 2 seed to state.

Desi Zuger and Breanna Schmick combined for 17 points in the second-half to help the Eagles pull away from the Irish.
Zuger and Casey Gossard combined for 22 rebounds. SJE’s Christine Cronrath added nine assists.
Jenny Lindgren totaled five assists and five steals for DeSales, and Whitney Power scored seven in the fourth quarter.

Tiffani King hit four 3-pointers in the first half and the Panthers ousted the Patriots.
Sarah Witters added eight rebounds for Asotin, and Mandy McCann had six assists and six steals.
Bre McNair scored 18, hitting 6 of 8 free throws, and Alayna Brauer had eight rebounds for Liberty Christian.

Patrick Heaton and Gabe Smith combined for 20 first-half points and the quick-starting Nighthawks eliminated the Wildcats.
Heaton and Sam Crossett added six rebounds apiece, and Adam Ellis had five assists for the Nighthawks. Colton senior Brian Busch had seven rebounds, four assists, and finished his career with 917 points.
T-O shot 52 percent from the floor, Colton 28 percent.
The Nighthawks will play Waitsburg at 2:30 p.m. Friday in a loser-out game. The winner will play Saturday morning for a state berth.
Friday’s 6:30 p.m. championship game is between Garfield-Palouse (20-2) and St. John-Endicott (19-5).

Waitsburg shot 51 percent from the field, Pomeroy 30 percent. Pomeroy’s Jory Feider scored 12 in the second half and finished with nine rebounds.
