Clark Fork Wears District Crown
A-4 boys basketball
When the Clark Fork High boys basketball brings its “A” game, Falls Christian coach Jared Phay admits his team is no match.
And he doubts there are few teams at the A-4 level that can match the Wampus Cats either.
Clark Fork breezed past Falls Christian 67-49 to capture the District I championship Friday at North Idaho College’s Christianson Gym.
Both teams had secured state berths with wins Wednesday. So Friday’s game decided seeding to state, which begins Wednesday at Caldwell and Vallivue high schools.
At state, Clark Fork (16-5 overall) will open against either Meadows Valley (12-5) or Wilder (16-7), the District III runner-up. Those two play a seeding game today, with the loser getting the matchup against the Wampus Cats.
Falls Christian (14-8) will take on District V runner-up Rockland at Caldwell.

The Wampus Cats took control early, and weren’t seriously threatened.
Clark Fork built on its 35-25 halftime lead. The Wampus Cats extended their lead to 18 in the third quarter and led by as many as 21 points in the fourth period.
Doing most of the damage for Clark Fork was 6-foot-7 senior Shawn Rounsville, who finished with a career-high 28 points. The smaller Eagles had no answer for Rounsville.
Sophomore Scott Jackson led FCA with 20 points.
It was Clark Fork’s third win in as many games against FCA. Both teams captured trophies at state last year.
“It was pretty physical and that’s definitely to their (the Wampus Cats’) advantage,” Phay said. “Clark Fork could do very well at state. I think we can too.”
