Christine Miller Newport, Wash.

Memorial service for Christine M. Miller, 59, will be at 11 a.m. today at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport.

Mrs. Miller, who was born in Newport, died Friday.

She was a lifetime Pend Oreille County resident and graduated in 1958 from Cusick (Wash.) High School.

She was a homemaker and worked as a payroll clerk for the Pend Oreille Public Utility District and the National Bank of Commerce in Newport.

Survivors include her companion, Roy Oscarson of Newport; two sons, Jim Miller of Newport and Terry Miller of Priest River, Idaho; a daughter, Sheryl Hammons of Spokane; a brother, Frank Dexter of Alaska; her mother, Hazel Dexter of Cusick; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.

Michael Fowler Spokane

Service for Michael Fowler, 20, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Fowler died Feb. 21 at Fort Benning, Ga.

He entered in the Army in 1998 and was stationed in North Carolina and Maryland prior to being stationed at Fort Benning.

Survivors include his father, Jerry Fowler, and his mother, Laurel Woodworth, both of Spokane; a sister, Heather Woodworth of Spokane; and his grandparents, Patty Young of Spokane, and Leroy and Wilma Fowler of Airway Heights.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Lucille (Barton) Moore Sandpoint

Memorial service for Lucille Dorothy (Barton) Moore, 87, will be at 1 p.m. held today at Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint.

Mrs. Moore, who died Friday, was born in Oelrichs, S.D.

She grew up and graduated from high school in Oelrichs and then married John McKenzie Sr. He died in 1931, and she moved to Colville, Wash., in 1941.

She moved to Sandpoint and in 1943 married Ralph Moore.

Her husband died in 1986.

Mrs. Moore had participated in hunting, fishing and gardening.

She is survived by a son, John McKenzie of Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter, Latoy Aycock of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a stepson, Robert Moore of Sandpoint; three brothers, Virgil and Clarence Barton, both of Colville, and Harold Barton of Spokane; four sisters, Elsie Day and Lyla Richardson, both of Colville, Loretta McBreen of Portland and Veda May Mecheam of Knoxville, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Ervin Schroeder Vancouver, Wash.

Memorial service for Ervin B. Schroeder, 88, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Deer Park. Private burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Cheney, Mr. Schroeder died Feb. 21.

He worked for Round Up Grocery Company for 20 years. He also owned and operated Stone Corner Grocery in Newman Lake.

Mr. Schroeder was a former resident of Clayton, Wash., and the Spokane Valley. He recently moved to Vancouver.

He was a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Vancouver and was a charter member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Spokane. He was also a member of the Retail Clerks Union.

His first wife, Louise, died in 1975.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel; two sons, Richard Schroeder of Spokane and Robert Schroeder of Deer Park; a stepson, Arnie Teppo of Vancouver, Wash.; two stepdaughters, Suzanna Gray of Seattle and Janella Richards of Copalis, Washington; seven grandchildren, 10 stepgrandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Henry Gumm West End Spokane Indian Reservation

Funeral Mass for Henry Richard Gumm, 62, will be at 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church on the Spokane Indian Reservation. Burial will follow at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville, Wash., Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gumm, who was born in Colville, died Saturday.

He served in the Air Force for 19 years. He retired in 1976 from Fairchild Air Force Base.

Mr. Gumm moved to the reservation three years ago from Airway Heights.

Survivors include his wife, Lola; two daughters, Monica Wignall and Lisa Vaughn, both of Airway Heights; three brothers, Jack Gumm of Spokane, Jerry Gumm of Deer Park and Bob Gumm of Colville; three sisters, Verna Clark of Spokane, Ruth Lindquist of Colville and Irene Frostad of Chewelah, Wash.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Harry Rentel Veradale

Visitation for Harry E. “Hank” Rentel, 80, will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Service is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park.

A 40-year Spokane resident, Mr. Rentel died Thursday.

He was born in Spokane and graduated from St. Maries High School in 1937 and from Northwest Business College in Spokane in 1940.

During World War II he served in the Army in the European Theater.

From 1940 to 1991 he was an office and personnel manager for Bitco Steel and Kaman Bearing Corp.

Mr. Rentel was a member of the Wallace Elks and Eagles lodges and the Brotherhood of Friends Lodge and American Legion in Spokane.

Survivors include two brothers, Beryl and Wayne Rentel, both of Spokane; and a sister, Hazel Cason of Staunton, Va.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Spokane.

Amanda (Martin) Jensen Wilbur, Wash.

Service for Amanda (Martin) Jensen, 90, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wilbur Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Wilbur Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Wilbur is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jensen died Saturday.

She was a lifetime Wilbur resident and graduated in 1927 from Wilbur High School.

Mrs. Jensen worked for the Creston (Wash) State Bank and later became a homemaker.

She was a member of Wilbur Lutheran Church and Order of Eastern Star Tuscan Chapter 64.

Her husband of 57 years, Roscoe, preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Roger Jensen of Wilbur and Marvin Jensen of Prineville, Ore.; a sister, Bertha Heikkinen of Minneapolis; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Dominic `Dee’ Sherlock Spokane

Memorial service for Dominic J. “Dee” Sherlock, 82, was Monday at the Jesuit House chapel.

Born in Spokane, Mr. Sherlock died last Tuesday.

He graduated from Gonzaga Prep in 1935.

Before World War II he worked as a sanitation inspector for the Bremerton Health Department.

During the war he served as a lieutenant in the Army. He was discharged in 1946.

Mr. Sherlock later worked for the Spokane County Health Department. He retired as administrator of the CityCounty Health Department. He had served as director of the Spokane County Air Pollution Control Authority and also as a member of its board.

Mr. Sherlock was a past commander of the American Legion Post 19 and was a member of Downriver Golf Course.

His wife of 62 years, Jane, died in January.

Survivors include a son, Michael Sherlock of Seattle; a sister, Mary Budig of Spokane; and two grandsons.

David Dauterman Spokane

Graveside service with military honors for David A. Dauterman, 54, is planned for 3 p.m. today at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorial service was Monday at St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Seattle, Mr. Dauterman died Friday.

His family moved to Spokane when he was 14 years old.

He graduated from Gonzaga Prep and received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Eastern Washington University.

Mr. Dauterman served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He worked as a para-educational aide for the Central Valley School District for seven years. He also coached baseball, softball and football for the Central Valley School District, the Valley Baseball League and St. John Vianney and St. Mary’s Catholic schools.

He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, the Valley Umpires Association and Neighborhood Accountability Board. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Linda; a son, Marc Dauterman of Spokane; four daughters, Kristina and Sara Dauterman, both of Spokane, Patricia Smart of Post Falls and Maggie Dauterman of Lebanon, Ore.; a sister, Sally Phillips of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Frank Vecchio Spokane

Funeral Mass for Frank Raymond Vecchio, 80, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church. Burial service will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Vecchio died Thursday.

He served in the Army during World War II and saw action in the Battle of the Bulge.

He was a police officer and detective with the Spokane Police Department for 25 years. He retired in 1971.

He was a member of the Spokane Footprinters Chapter 34, which he also served as grand director.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Frances; and three sisters, Margaret Nigro, Eva Gagliardi and Lillian Jannak, all of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mater Dei Institute.

Todd Helm Mesa, Ariz.

Service for Todd Benjamin Helm, 27, a former Spokane resident, was Saturday at Mariposa Gardens Chapel in Mesa. Mr. Helm, who was born in Spokane, died last Tuesday.

He moved to Mesa three years ago from Spokane. Mr. Helm was an account manager for Freedom Medical Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Melody; a son, Tyler Helm, at home; his parents, Steve Helm and Kathy Scheib, both of Mesa; a sister, Tonya Kohler; a brother, Travis Helm; and his grandmother, Lydia Wallace.

Vera Harbison Sandpoint

Service for Vera Ann Harbison, 78, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sandpoint First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Westmond (Idaho) Cemetery. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Harbison, who was born in Jamestown, N.D., died Feb. 21 in an automobile accident near Hauser Lake, Idaho.

She grew up and attended schools in Sandpoint. In 1948 she married Melvin Harbison Sr.

They moved to Seattle, and after retiring, moved to Prichard, Idaho, in 1987. They moved to Hayden, Idaho, in 1989 and settled in Sandpoint in 1997.

Mrs. Harbison was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was active with various women’s groups, and she volunteered at the Sandpoint Senior Center and Bonner General Hospital. She also was a Master Gardener.

Survivors include her husband; nine children, Robert Harbison Sr. of Seattle, Pauline Seekins of Hayden, Evelyn Griffin of Sagle, Idaho, Larry Harbison of Echo Lake, Wash., Danny Harbison of Duvall, Wash., Linda Harbison and Mel Harbison Jr., both of Sandpoint, Lauretta Minaglia of Arlington, Wash., and Cindy Hawkins of Redmond, Wash.; a sister, Verna Halpin, and a brother, Daniel McMurtrey, both of Spokane; 24 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
