Scott Resigns Montana Post

University of Montana volleyball coach Dick Scott, who was abruptly placed on administrative leave last September, has resigned.

Scott, coach for 22 years, will officially step down when his contract expires June 30.

“I feel that a return to coaching at this juncture of my life would be detrimental to my health and well-being,” Scott said in his letter of resignation. “I feel the need to devote more time to my family.”

Athletics director Wayne Hogan declined to discuss the resignation, saying: “Personal means personal.”

When Scott was placed on administrative leave, Hogan issued a statement saying: “Dick has some personal issues to deal with before we can discuss his return to the program. Our thoughts will be with him during the coming months.”

At that time, Scott said the leave was sudden and unplanned.

“I learned today at noon,” he said. “It blew me away. I didn’t understand it at all.

“I guess there are various sources that say I’m out of control,” Scott said, adding that apparently there were complaints “about how I act on the bench.”
