UW-Superior Player Killed
The University of Superior-Wisconsin postponed two women’s basketball games after one player was killed and another critically injured in an auto crash on their way to the funeral of the father of a third.
Calah A. Matthias, 20, died Thursday, just hours after scoring a career-high 18 points in a loss to Northwestern College of Minnesota.
Matthias was driving a car that skidded on slush and ice and crashed head-on into a semitrailer truck on U.S. 2 east of Iron River at 9:20 a.m. Thursday.
A teammate, Jessica Reed, 22, was in critical condition. The women were driving to Mellen to attend the funeral of the father of teammate Sara Wohlgemuth.
